If I take over at Wales, as my first job with a a sunday league reputation, is it possible for me to better my reputation and get a club job by just getting them qualified to a tournament or would I have to win a trophy?

You should be able to get a job around BSN/BSS level after a bit of holidaying. Doing better in tournaments is only going to help your reputation, so the more the better.
