Seems that we're on the look out for another striker - regardless of the fact that there are far more pressing issues to be resolved.
Personally, I think he'd be a good replacement for the clearly unsuitable Mido.
If we keep hold of Defoe, we won't need a quick, direct striker, we'll need a more intelligent, aware player, such as Ashton.
And what with West Ham attempting to buy everyone from everywhere, he may very well be available (and injured, but you can't have everything).
