I am wondering about the procedure for splitting 3 or more teams who are on the same points at the end of the group stages in the champions league.
I have a copy of the UEFA regulations (below) but my question is as follows;
If we are sorting 3 teams and we reach a criteria where one team beats the others (e.g.
(b) - superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams) do we then:
1. Return to (a) and filter the remaining teams, or
2. Continue on filtering the remaining teams from (c) on.
I am interested to know how FM does it and also what everything thinks UEFA does.
Thanks
DJ
6.05 If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group
matches, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings:
a) higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the
teams in question;
b) superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams
in question;
c) higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches
played among the teams in question;
d) superior goal difference from all group matches played;
e) higher number of goals scored;
f) higher number of coefficient points accumulated by the club in question,
as well as its association, over the previous five seasons (see paragraph
8.02).
