I've found the best way to avoid most managerial stress in this game - I set my lineups, start the game, then quickly go on vacation for a day, and bang on the return from vacation button as quickly as possible. If I win, I watch the highlights; if I lose, on to the next game.

Like another poster here, I enjoy assembling the team and finding players. I'd rather let my assistant do most of the in-game tactical stuff (especially because he's there for the whole game like the AI manager). I feel this is better than watching key plays and trying to adjust tactics based on that.

Also, with extremely long and tiring seasons (like a Blue Square Premier season of 46 games and 4 cup tournaments), the season can actually move along a little bit. My teams have been very successful with this method.

I tend to do the same thing. My favourite part of the game is scouting players and developong young talent, so I normally let the assistant handle the matches and I concentrate on finding and signing players.

Important matches I will play myself, but most of the time I just sim the matches. I don't have the time or patience anymore to be spending too much time on one season.

I love the Football Manager series as I have bought every version from its beginnings in 1993 on the Good old Amiga (R.I.P.). Yes it is getting more harder to play with each new version and it brings in a new challenge. But I sometimes like to go back to the earlier versions where there is a lot less to do. I have not seen it mentioned before but how about a Football Manager Lite version where there is less to do but is enjoyable to play rather than being a chore sometimes. I think there is a very good potential for SI to drum up some extra revenue for 2 versions. Where are the people who can get Worksop Town and the like to win the Premier in just a few seasons. Are they cheating or do they know something us wannabe's don't. I have tried downloading their special tactics but they don't work for me. Even buying the top scorer in another team (40 goals in 25 games) and he won't score for me. Even getting players the scout rate very highly won't work for me. Now every player in the game is different so it seems to me that you set every player before a game to play to his strength rather than use the team settings. Another thing is how the game is programmed. I remember a very old Football manager game on the spectrum (R.I.P.) when you manager to get the team quality about a certain level then the computer AI jumped up another level to make it just as hard, even if you were in the same division. So come on those who are finding this game really easy and winning everything tell us what you are really doing even if if it cheating.......

Razzleman,
I'm a novice started with FM07.

My tips

Use Genie Scout to check your team rating and buy in/loan players from Parent to a level of top of league above and sell any of your own players that cannot hack it.

Use Kimz V1 or V2 no tweaking required just buy players to suit formation.

Try it with say Liverpool just buy Aguero and Samba or with Oxford as good rep and easy to get good players.

I can let you know step by step if required.

Some good reads in this thread! I also do believe the game is a bit on the difficult side. It does depend though, I think the game is good. It just doesn't have the pick up and play nature it used to, very realistic but maybe a bit too realistic.
