Is there a certain age that a players complains , about lack of first - team football ??

Don't think so, its more to do with the squad status you have given them. For example if you set one player as a 'key member of the first team squad', then threw him in the reserves for the season, chances are he'll complain and become unsettled.

Although I have had one player recently who complained about lack of football, who was a teenager at the time with his status set to 'decent young player', and he went public with his concerns... he just got released, barely any compensation for his measly contract.

Maybe it has something to do with personality as well.

They get greyed out when he's offered a new contract if he's too old.

The 'complain' thing is down to his ambition (hidden attribute). I have 30+ reserves who never complain and 17-18 year old back-ups who moan.

yep, but for some reason their squad status changes to 'uncertain' from time to time as well, which tends to get them worried.
