With my superfast PC out of action with a blown PSU I decided to load up a short game of FM07 on the old wind-up machine. However delays because of the bank holiday & the company assigning a job to a engineer based in South London with a weeks worth of jobs(?) means I've got through more season than I expected & having more fun than my FM08 save.
Leagues loaded: Scottish SD3 & above, English Conference regionals & above plus the top 2 divisions from Spain, Italy & Germany.
I couldn't be bothered holidaying a season & started with Queens Park.
2006/07 - SD3
I inherit a huge squad, a transfer kitty  & a £95K pcm debt repayment. A few new players are introduced but mindful of the debt we have to service I don't go mad. A solid season & I spend most of the year working out which players to keep.
Final Standings: 4th 15W 8D 13L 65GF 64GA 53pts Play-offs: 2-2 & 0-1 against Montrose so another season in SD3 Player of the Year: Journeyman Striker
2007/08 - SD3
Lessons from last season are learnt, a few youth rejects are brought in but other than that I have a settled team. We set records for points & goals that still stand on our way to the title.
Final Standings: 1st 24W 7D 5L 82GF 45 GA 79pts Player of the Year: Lethal young striker with 30 goals
2008/09 – SD2
Succeeded in consolidating our second division status, neither threatened the top four or bottom two places all season. Lethal ST shows good form netting13 goals but starts to show signs of fragility
Final Standings: 6th 11W 12D 13L 51GF 50GA 45pts Player of the Year: Pacey winger
2009/10 – SD2
With the debt mounting (now over £2M) a number of players are sold bringing in £150K & some nice sell-on clauses, I do manage to keep my young ST & reinforce to front line with a couple of players with SPL reserve & English championship experience. Hamilton ran away with the division securing 81 points.
Final Standings: 2nd 20W 4D 12L 55GF 39GA 64pts Play-offs: 0-3 & 1-0 against Brechin, another failed play-off bid Player of the Year: English ST who assisted as often as scored
2010/11 – SD2
My young ST is definitely suffering from growing pains, after spending most of last season injured he yet again spends more time on the treatment table than anywhere else. My scout is obviously a smart chap & finds a not so gifted but incredibly athletic young striker who goes about skinning defences all over Scotland, promotion is secured with a few games to spare thanks largely to my defence & wonderkid keeper.
Final Standings: 1st 21W 11D 4L 55GF 22GA 79pts Player of the Year: Joint award to athletic ST & wonderkid keeper
2011/12- SD1
Fragile ST is still having problems & I nearly sold him but there were no takers. A great start & we were 2nd after 9 games, 4th at the turn of the year & then came the cup. A 4-3 replay defeat to Hearts thanks to two 90th minute penalties destroyed my young teams confidence & we went into freefall. In the last 9 games we beat promotion chasing Airdrie & Partick but lose to the rest & slipped below 8th for the first time in the season after fellow struggler Clyde beat Morton who had already been confirmed champions.
Final Standings: 9th 11W 7D 18L 42GF 55GA 40pts Play-offs: 1-1 & 1-2 against Alloa, for those who are counting that’s 5 failed Scottish play-off campaigns on & off-line. Player of the Year: Versatile defender who along with another one of our players makes it into the SD1 team of the year. Must be a first for a relegated team.
As for project Hampden the capacity was only reduced over the last year & is currently just over 40,000 but with the club nearly £4m in the red & a season in SD2 likey to add another £1.2m to that amount the future doesn’t look promising for the famous old ground.
Ourselves & fellow relegated outfit Inverness CT make it a two horse race. Our injury prone stiker had obviously seen a doctor over he summer as he spent a season fully fit & formed a great partnership with the sprinter turn footballer. Not enough though as Caley Thistle & their SPL squad showed more consistancy & we once again bottled it only managing 4 points in the last 7 league games to finish 13 points adrift in of 1st.
Final Standings: 2nd 21W 8D 7L 50GF 28GA 71pts (enough points to usually win the league) Play-offs: Drew Cowdenbeath who beat us 3 times in the regular season, 0-0 & 0-1 saw us(me) bottle it again. Player of the Year: New short arse keeper.
As for the ground it got reduced yet again to 34,000, we only lost £750K this year tahnks to drawing Celtic at home in the cup & selling our wonderkid keeper for £100K to Hearts.
Nice to know mad one, TBH I could have called Pete considering we live in the same town & he always seem to have time on his hands but the machine is still under warranty so while the manufacturers will do it for free I'll take advantage.
After forced sales in teh summer our lack of depth is an issue & injuries cause problems early on, worst case is our athletic striker who suffers a broken leg in pre-season then only last 6 minutes on his return after breaking his ribs. Free transfers over the year help & we eventually mount a title challenge. Last 7 games bring 11 points so we're getting better but once again we finish well adrift of 1st.
Final Standings: 2nd 20W 6D 10L 70GF 34GA 66pts Play-offs: 1-1 & 1-0 against Hamilton & we're in a final
1-1 & 0-1 against Raith & we're stuck in SD2
As for Hampden our failed promotion campaings have reduced the capacity to 29,420*, because it's worth a mention the EPL has the most dramitic final day ever with 4 teams able to win the title with Liverpool takling the hounours on goal difference to Arsenal & ManUre with Chelsea finsihing a single point behind in fourth.
*This is the last time I mention Hampden, I'm now making it my life aim to win in the Scottish play-offs & couldn't care less about the old girl.
Nothing like a week off work to help in steaming through the seasons.
2014/15
I have no confidence heading into the season as the board finally start selling our better players however after a month into the season I realise that this is the weakest SD2 for a number of years. We cruise into a 10 point lead by Christmas & win the Challenge cup on the way earning £500K thanks to the final being held at Murrayfield. The title is secured with a game to spare as others around us take points off each other.
Final Standings: 1st 21w 6D 9L 72GF 40GA 69pts Last 7 Watch: Only managed 11 points from 21 on offer which goes to show how bad the opposition was as we finished 4 points clear of 2nd place Clyde.
