I came across this forums a couple of days ago and was intrigued, so I decided I'd give it a go, using the random team generator I was given Maritzburg City a South African team that apparently was too low of a division for me to select (that, or I'm an idiot) so I went into the lowest league I could select and by coincidence there was Maritzburg UTD so I picked them instead.
Start of the first season my board told me that I had to gain a mid-table finish, I opted for a top table finish, the bookies felt I wasn't a contender for promotion.
I went into the season with an amazing start, winning the first 5 games in a row before my star striker got absolutely crippled in a training exercise and was out for 6 months, not a problem, I felt my team could go on.
A few short months later saw me firstly get into the semi-finals of the first division cup before I lost to the team that went onto to win it and also saw me in a heated battle for the play offs. End of 2007 saw me sat in a nice comfortable third place, with 10 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses.
Start of 2008 wasn't as impressive drawing in most of my games and winning the odd few, my star striker then came back from his injury, and after some major tactic tweaking, I was ready to go again. I got through the qualifying stage and the first round of the SAFA Cup, but I was then eliminated by a premier team, and still in the much coveted play off spot (having by this time realised guranteed promotion was far, far from my grasp) so I battled on.
End of the season saw me narrowly get into the play offs (Through a goal difference of 2 above the team that just missed it!) Unfortunately I lost to the team that was in second place at the end of the league 4-3 on Aggregate.
However with my team's overall performance and success in getting some great deals in the transfer window my board decided to offer me a new contract.

Board Expectations: Respectable Mid Table Finish

My Expectation: Top table finish.
Due to my club being in debt (Not my fault!!!!) I was screwed over with my transfer budget and given £0 and my wages was the same as last season, so that wasn't problematic.
I get the season off to a brilliant start winning 6 games in a row before I was finally battled down to a draw, I don't even make it passed the first round of the South African First Division Cup, by the end of the year I'm at the top of the table with the team in 2nd not too far behind.
2009 starts and I maintain my lead, but not by much. I get knocked out of the SAFA after qualifying so my performance isn't great. Adding to that one of the two awesome strikers I have decided that he's ready to leave looking for a more ambitious club, which is fine as I soon replace him with a better ST.
By the 28th match (There are 30 overall) there are literally two points seperating me and second place (Platinum Stars FC) which is fine, I thought, that was until I saw my next (and second last match of the season) was against them, I felt confident going into the match and expected to hold my own. This was not the case, I lose 3-0 and am now 1 point behind them with 1 match to play. I play the team who overall come 8th in the league and draw, and Plat Stars play the team that is ranked 13th and win 3-0, I can guess my guranteed promotion goodbye.
Oh well, I think, I can survive play-offs, wrong again, I lose 2-1 on aggregate to a team that I destroyed both times I played them in the season. My Board are happy enough to offer me another, better, contract, but I'm absolutely gutted!
