2011/12...Wakehurst...Northern Ireland Premier League Media Prediction - 8th Board Expectations – Mid-table Summary – A quiet off-season saw only one signing, a new goalkeeper on a free from Linfield. And it soon looked as though we could live to regret not being more active in the transfer market, as we sat bottom of the table after the first six games. From there on however, we went on a complete tear, winning 9 of our next 11, and moving into third place a little before the half-way stage of the season – albeit a long way behind Glentoran and Linfield.
And there we stayed, riding out a rough patch in March to claim third spot, and a place for next season in the Intertoto Cup. Wakehurst are going to Europe! Highlight – A 3-0 win over fourth place Portadown that effectively sealed a European place. Lowlight – A poor Irish Cup display was the only real blip. My POTY – Our two strikers took the glory, but young right midfielder really came into his own, and established himself as an indispensable part of the team. NIP – P30 W16 D7 L7 F53 A35 Pts55...3rd NI Cup –6th round loss to Bangor. (Glentoran, who won the league by 10 points, won the final 7-0 against Armagh – who finished 5th in the Premier League!) League Cup – Quarter-final loss to Cliftonville County Antrim Shield – Winners, with a 1-0 extra-time victory over non-league Dromara in the final.
