Board wants us to battle bravely against relegation. I say I’ll get mid table.
Bank Balance - 10k
Transfer Budget – Zero Pence
Players In – 1 (Loan)
Players Out – 2 (1k)
I kept faith with the squad I inherited. This was mainly due to my scout finding carp all season, except the loanee goal machine of a striker, who banged in 10 in the last 14 games.
Started off taking just three points from the first eight games, but finished in our highest position of the season, which the board were more than happy with.

POTY: Welsh striker who somehow has an Under 21 cap (20 goals, most deflected in off his arse).
A new chairman came in during the season and doesn’t seem to have very high targets for the club. In fact he invested a whole 9k into the club, giving me nothing to spend. So much for these big money takeovers!

Board wants mid table. I agree.
Bank Balance -30k in debt
Transfer Budget – Nowt
Players In – 3 (1 loan) (0k)
Players Out – 5 (0k)
I wasn’t expecting too much as I had 14 senior players, with the rest made up of youth players. Somehow we were in the top six all season and an eleven game unbeaten run near the end of the season cemented third place, and a place in the play-offs. We then cocked up all of the seasons hard work by losing in the semis to local rivals Bath, 3-1 on aggregate.
League: Pos 3rd P42 W24 D7 L11 F74 A46 Pts79 FA Cup: Second Qualifying Rd FA Trophy: Second Rd Sultana Shield: Second Rd
POTY: New bald striker (25 goals)
Highlights of the season were a youth team striker who turned into my super sub and scored 17 goals. Also, the fact that the club’s bank balance was now out of the red.
2009-10 Weston-super-Mare (BSS)
Media Prediction – 6th
Board wants a top half finish. I agree.
Bank Balance - 10k
Transfer Budget – Don't be silly
Players In – 6 (2 loans) (0k)
Players Out - 6 (3k). Received 3k for out of favour POTY from the first season. Four of the players out were youth teamers.
Despite last seasons finish and the bookies making us joint second favourites for the league, I didn’t feel so confident as I couldn’t persuade many players to sign for the peanuts I could offer. Again I went with 14 senior players and the rest made up of youths. The average age of the squad was just 21.
Managed to sign the loan goal machine from the first season on a free, and even though he had two major injuries in succession, he managed 19 goals in the last 18 games.
A run of 1 win in 15, halfway through the season, put paid to the play-offs, but a good run towards the end of the season saw us finish in a respectable 7th position. I was also rejecting bids, near enough every day, for my two first choice centre halves.
League: Pos 7th P42 W16 D14 L12 F74 A62 Pts62 FA Cup: First Rd FA Trophy: Third Qualifying Rd Sultana Shield: Fourth Rd
POTY: Flying Welsh winger
Highlights of the season included losing 6-4 in the last game of the season to runaway leaders Dorchester. This was after being 5-0 down at half time! Their manager then called me incompetent after the game!
Also managing to come third in the Conference South manager of the season awards, even though we finished 7th.
The board offered me a new two year contract, but I went for a one year deal due to a few teams showing an interest in me. Plus if we don't start very well next season, it could be time to move on.
Well done mate. I'm currently hitting the depths of depression with Redditch so I can understand that BSS blues that can affect even the most sane manager form time to time.

A fellow Westonian!
I nearly went there on Saturday, but decided against it, as I had a party to attend in the evening. Luckily I didn'T as the game was called off due to the Maidenhead coach being stuck on the M4!
Players In – 7 (4 loans) (0k)
Players Out - 15 (1k) - 10 were youth players
14 players were released, though the majority were youths. Still no money for transfers, but as the oldest player in the team is 24, at least the future looks bright for the club.
The usual slow start to the season made me seriously consider my position at the club, but with eight games left, we were only two points off top spot. From then on, we only managed a single win until the end of the season. This meant we just scraped into the play-offs and having a player sent off in three successive games didn’t help!
We beat Ebbsfleet in the play-off semi’s, 6-2 on aggregate I wasn’t too confident going into the final as we were playing Braintree, who had beaten us twice during the season.
It was 0-0 with ten minutes to go, and the game looked to be heading to extra time. I sent on an AM, who I was thinking about releasing at the end of the season. He then goes and bangs in a double in the last five minutes, which sends us to the promised land of the Conference!
League: Pos 5th P42 W21 D8 L13 F76 A58 Pts71 FA Cup: Second Qualifying Rd FA Trophy: Third Qualifying Rd Sultana Shield: Second Rd
POTY: The goal machine (33 goals)
Highlights included the super sub ex-youth striker from season two, becoming the clubs all time top goalscorer. This was then beaten by the goal machine who I signed in season three.
The flying Welsh winger, who managed to score more goals in his own net than in the oppositions!
Signed a contract for another year, this time with a £40 a week pay rise! :p
Board wants us to try and avoid relegation. I stupidly say we will.
Bank Balance - 24k in debt
Transfer Budget – Not a penny
Players In – 3 (3 loan) (0k)
Players Out - 9 (8k)
I decided to give the promotion winning squad a chance of competing at a higher level, but did also question my sanity for doing this! Released eight members of the previous season’s youth team, though the youth set-up has unearthed another quality, but hospital prone, striker.
One point from the first nine games, and scoring in only one of those games, meant it was going to be a long, hard season. We were battered most weeks, but so were the other four clubs that we were down in the relegation mire with.
Despite being seven points above the drop zone at one stage, it came down to the last game of the season. We had lost our previous four games 1-4, 0-5, 0-6 and 1-5 but could stay up if we got a point and both Boston and Leigh lost. They both lost, but our good old defence let us down yet again, and we lost 4-2 at home to York.
Relegated on goal difference, which wasn’t surprising with the amount of goals we let in!
League: Pos 21st P46 W7 D9 L30 F56 A119 Pts30 FA Cup: First Rd FA Trophy: Second Rd Sultana Shield: Fifth Rd
POTY: The goal machine (37 goals, two thirds of our goals scored!)
The only highlight of the season was the goal machine, who tried to single handily keep us up.
The board offered me a two year contract. I pondered, but went for a one year deal and hopefully will try to get Weston back up to the promised land. First thing on the shopping list is a new defence!
Board wants us to achieve a respectable position. I say we’ll challenge for promotion.
Bank Balance - 148k
Transfer Budget – Nothing
Players In – 6 (4 loans) (0k)
Players Out - 8 (1k)
Even though we had a fair bit of money in the bank from the previous seasons visit to see the big boys of the Conference, the board still wouldn’t give me any money to spend. The board were worried about the ‘disastrous setback’ of relegation and I had a feeling I would be out the door if we didn’t start well…..
A steady start saw us stay around 8th for three quarters of the season and the goal machine was also out for 4 months with a broken foot. A 8 game unbeaten run until the end of the season meant we finished in 4th, our highest position of the season, and into the lottery of the play-offs again.
Before the play-offs, the board offered me a new 3 year contract, but once again I went for a 1 year improved contract.
We beat Bishops Stortford 3-2 on aggregate in the semis, to set up a final with Margate, who had finished 2nd in the league. Two goals from the goal machine gave us a 2-0 win and another crack at the conference. Hopefully we’ll do better this time around!
League: Pos 4th P42 W18 D14 L10 F82 A63 Pts68 FA Cup: Fourth Qualifying Rd FA Trophy: Fourth Rd Sultana Shield: Fourth Rd
POTY: Young goal machine mark two
Highlight of the season was young goal machine mark two, who scored 36 goals in his first season in the first team.
