Cups suck arse, generally. Only an odd few that don't.

The Serie C Cup...
It has to be experienced to be believed. At best it's an irritating diversion. At worst it's a morale-crushing 180 minutes in energy-sapping heat.
A horrid, horrid competition.

On May 24th, I was approached by Budelsdorf in the German Regionals. 4 points from safety with 2 games to go I thought it might be a fun challenge. 5 days later, with relegation in the bag, I quit.
My Fitness Coach - who'd been in post 2 days - left with me. I'm starting to like him... |

Rep Power: 0 | Season 5: Carlisle United, England, Blue Square Premier.
Appointed a few days before the transfer window, the scouts went out and I brought a few triallists in. They were all crap but I signed a couple of back-ups and one-trick ponies. I held onto the first team, which looked far too good for the league. I signed my old Fitness Coach (now called Sancho, thanks Sancho!) and made a few staff changes in general. Blue Square Premier: We were the pace-setters and, to be honest, the only team ever likely to win the league. How the AI manager got this team relegated I have no idea. By mid-February we were 21 points clear and that was pretty much it. We won the league on a day off with 7 games remaining and despite the players long having given up any pretense of trying hard we finished 19 points clear of second. Final Position: P:46 W:33 D:11 L:2 GD:+70 Pts:110. Champions! FA Cup: Beat BSP no-hopers Gateshead to reach the first round. Brutalised Rochdale (mid-table L2) 7-0 at Spotland and then eased past Notts County (3rd in L2) to set up a 3rd Round tie with Premiership Sheffield Wednesday. Cruised past them 3-0 (not sure how, but it was easy) before a soggy Brunton Park spoiled it for us as Villa put us in our place 0-1. Suck-Ass cups: Got knocked out in the first round of the FA Trophy, which the chairman moaned about incessantly. Made our way through to the final of the Setanta Shield, but were beaten over 120 minutes by Torquay in a game we deserved to win.
The players who played the most were those left over from last season. A loan signing from Everton made a big impact on the wings, where we had problems with injuries, and it's mainly the areas where injuries hit us hard that I'm looking to make additions in the summer. The FA Cup saved our finances and helped us make a ~£300k profit for the year. Not enough to break even, but I'm hoping that a few more bums on seats will make the difference in League 2.

Good luck with Carlisle!
You should be in the Premiership in no time (I took them from League 2 to Premiership in consecutive seasons )
