I don´t come here very often...but i have been playing by the LLM rules for a while now. I started on Brazil´s lowest division and worked my way up to the First Division, getting sacked a few times in the course of many seasons.
Now im managing a top division side, and i see myself before a dillema. I reckon the goal of LLM is to come as close as possible to what would be i quitting my job to become a manager, withour taking the risk of death by starvation.
So here I am. I´ve been relying heavily on my scouts to this time, until now. There are some players that i know. I don´t know them because of FM, i know them cause they have a name around here IRL, and i am a pretty obsessive with football, watching any game from any league.
Since I am the manager, trying to sign the players that I know, not because of FM, but because i have a good general knowledge on brazilian players, players that are famous and all, is that breaking the rules?
You need to separate real life and the game. Just because a player might be ok or infamous in real life does not mean that after 5 or 10 years of game time that he will be any good or work well in your team. Scouts should be used to find new playing staff.
I was actually thinking something like "oh, this player used to be good, maybe he still has a couple of seasons on him...hey, Mr Scout, please go check him out and see how he´s been playing, if he still got it in him and please get back to me will you?"
Understand that LLM is a paradox of sorts - we all are here to strive for what is 'real', but at the same time, the LLM in-game world needs to be recognised as almost a parallel universe; one in which "Rodrigo McStriker" - Brazil international in real life, may actually have less footballing ability than a pineapple in the game world. And more importantly, a parallel universe where you don't know the players and their real-life abilities. If you fell onto another world, how would you possibly know that "Roddy O'Defender" even exists there?
well it's a difficult assumption to make, because there are other fators, Victa. If Pedro's been coaching in Brazil for many years, assuming so because he's risen through the ranks, then it's also realistic, and therefore within the spirit of this forum, that he has heard of or knows of a player that's relatively famous. I understand the worlds are different and you shouldn't assume that anyone is famous to begin with.
Eg, starting a game as a lower level coach in England, to make it simple, it's not a stretch to say I've heard of *injury-prone Scouser*, and any other national player, because of their exposure. Ten years down the line, I may not have scouted him specifically, but there's a logic that is comparable to pedrobrazil's situation.
I just don't think it's as simple as stick to your scouts.
icecream I think you may have misunderstood the OP.
The question related to using real world knowledge of players which without question or decbate is not part of the LLM ethos.
Once your game is loaded you have to build up your knowledge of players in that game world, many of us know a number of young prospects & star players IRL but as has been explained that doesn't make them any good in the world of FM.
On a certain level I do agree with you, creamy... people managing in any league would and should have knowledge of world-class players. But you get that information via the newsroom, and that's where and when you can acknowledge "Stretchy Beanpole-sen", Swedish legend, exists in the game and is doing quite well for himself - hence you can scout him and work from there.
(I don't do it personally, but I'm sure I remember this being discussed as valid LLaMa practice - I hope I'm correct.)
