Fan is probably a bit too strong. I like to see them do well, but haven't been to a game for two and a half seasons. I've been to six Newcastle Town games in that period, so I'm much more a Newcastle Town fan. Working in a shop does limit how often I can go though.
Dad and brother are both long term Stoke season ticket holders, and my mum used to be for a while in the 1970s, now she's an armchair supporter, but that's more due to ill health than anything else.
I never quite had the same level of interest as the rest of my family.
Interesting that both clubs have sold record season tickets for the new season. Stoke is understandable, but Vale is surprising, even with the discount. Must be 15-20 years since they were last in the fourth tier?
Only been Newcastle Town once might be going again for our pre-season friendly coming up.
I too am amazed at our season ticket sales I couldn't believe it, and 24 years since we were last at 4th tier I think (We've been relegated every 8 years since 1984)
Pah. You're all jumping on the cheap season ticket bandwagon. Irony is that our fans are so tight/fickle (delete as appropriate) that we've sold only half as many as we did last season so far.
They dropped the ball this season, to be honest. It's a mistake to say to people, "We'll give you another free season ticket if 9000 people buy one" because what happens is that people wait until the last minute to see if they'll get their free ticket, and go halves with their mates. And then they'll complain that we have no money again.
They should, IMHO, have said that the FIRST 9000 people buy one get one free, and any after that (but before a deadline) still get one for £150. Everyone wins.
