Activity in pre-season I have my squad ready and prepared for an assault on the playoffs with Granada C.F. the club I have gradually been molding for the past three years. Put alot of scouting and work in during the last few months of the year in preparation for the new season, bank balance has been built up and wage budget completely under control. Next thing I spy the Cisco Roma job in Italy has become available and out of interest I popped in my CV.. next thing the media are at me looking for a statement and I decline to comment.. Next day I'm notified of my sacking.. WTF.. the board loved me? I could've easilly put my screen through! Although I'd rather still be at Granada the sacking had killed off my reputation and looked as if nobody would touch me.. No spanish club would go near me.. and the best offers I was getting were in the BSN/S.. I eventually took the bottom club of the bottom division in Italy! Serie C2/A.. Como.. No players no money. Time to start again.

After searching long and hard for a job that would be of equivalent level I gave up and accepted the offer from newly promoted minnows Como. Without a senior player on the books I had a lot of work to do and no money to do it with. Fortunately the back room staff weren't half bad and the scouts worked hard on finding me 10 or so players on free transfers to bring in to compliment some rather promising players signed onto youth contracts. The main problem I was going to have was the side gelling together with so many different players being selected and told to get on with it.
Serie C2/A
I hate this cup.. end of story. I blame this cup for almost everything that went wrong this season as it just got in the way of our 6 or 7 opening league fixtures. Board only wanted us to enjoy the experience but that never happened. Players where injured and tired for the league games.. and I didnt have the luxury to swap and change the squad round to accommodate this. All in all we lost every game and finished bottom of the group.
League
As you can imagine from the description of our C2/A cup experience our league form didn't start greatly. I have a really promising young keeper on my books who I through in at the deep end.. the decision backfired greatly. We took the lead many times.. mainly due a great all round SC I managed to capture in the summer but we conceded so many. The defence didnt seem all that bad but the fans and media blasted my under-performing young keeper to the point were his confidence was shot and I had to drop him at christmas. We didnt win a game until the 11th of the season and by christmas we were second bottom and deep into the relegation places.
Bottom of the league is relegated automatically.. and at one point I was sure it would be us occupying that position. Eventually due to the leagues topscorer (My SC) we managed to drag ourselves from 18th place and managed to sit 17th one place above the automatic drop spot. I brought in two experienced players in January DC and AM/C and I put our half survival down to those two guys and obviously my striker. Last day of the season we realised we'd made a relegation playout.. and I was not confident.
Relegation Playout
We drew Bassano in the playout.. a side we had a 50% record against during the season beating them at home earlier on.. but they were definitley the strongest we could've faced. The first game at home saw us down 2-1 at half time. Predictably we were losing.. but an inspired team talk saw my trusty SC grab a hatrick and we managed a 3-2 win at home! Despite the away goals conceded I was overjoyed. Just had to keep it tight at their place.
The second leg came and as you could've guessed we went down 1-0 pretty early. I was counting on our one man band SC to drag us a goal out but he wasn't having his usual level of performance. I brought on my second striker and it payed off as he popped up with an equaliser! We were safe until the 80th minute when they bagged and made it 2-1. We through the kitchen sink at them for the last ten minutes but nothing came. Como were relegated! Gutted.
I had survival taken from me.. I would've loved to have kept Como in the division and built next season but because it was a non-playable division I duely resigned and began looking for pastures new. I enjoyed this season despite the relegation and hope for better luck at my new job. Maybe take my SC with me as he bagged 28 in 39.
Final League Position - 17th (Relagated!)

Average Attendance – 1800
Player of the Season – SC (28 in 39)
