It looks like my earlier moans, triggered by a poor start, were a wee bit premature, to say the least.
Worcester City 11/12, Blue Square Premier Board: mid-table Media: 17th
Me: playoff
Squad was largely the same as last season's but with more depth and a new defence with a defender from Congo who was brilliant in the air, something we lacked in previous seasons.
It looks like that the extra year of experience did the trick (average is age was still only 21 though). We started poorly (2-4-4) and I became pessimistic but then the team blew me away - and most of the Conference as well, for good measure.
Aristocratically named striker scored a moderate 14 goals last season but he exploded this time: 36 league goals and 9 assists. Last season's star, the ex-Watford man, wasn't as blistering but 22 league goals and 21 assists were more than useful.
Congolese defender also chipped in with 10 goals; defence tightened up a bit and we stopped conceding ridiculous goals though with my adventurousness we were always likely to play high-scoring games.
We had a brilliant 20-game unbeaten run which took us to the top of the table and we stayed there, shaking off Barnet and Macclesfield to clinch the title with two games to spare. Next game was away at Halifax: we played out a 5-5 draw
Final position: Champions, 28-10-8, 101-63, 94 pts Player of the year: Aristocratically named striker, 36 goals in 43 games, 7.61 rating
League football awaits us; I have a real affection for this young squad and I'm prepared to give them a chance in League Two, with only a few signings planned.
Signed a new three-year contract and hope for the best!

I must be inept at offensive tactics - 68 goals from 3 players tops any of my season team totals in the BS-L1 band. I sort of assumed it was down to nature of play, but I guess not.

I'm sure you play much more defensively than I do.
And I was helped enormously by the brilliant ex-Watford man, to the extent that I'm worried what will happen without him: I've sold him for 300k + 40% of any future transfer fee and got adequate replacements but there might be problems up front next season.

My goals allowed are lower, but nowhere near that sort of proportion.

Well, if it's any consolation, now my strikers miss chances left, right and centre in League Two. It was a new low when last season's star fired the ball wide of a completely empty net - then in the next game his strike partner did the same.
On a positive note: we look good for mid-table mediocrity; now univ exams are over and the Euro Championships are finished, too (thus less work for me) so I'll swamp you with updates during July
