After a year on holiday up to actual date, Frank gave me F.C. Eindhoven in the Dutch Eerste Divisie. They had finished in 11th place and not qualified by the play-offs, over £1M in debt and haemorrhaging money, strangely emulating real life as they are being forced out of the league by the Dutch FA and going bust.

KNVB Cup - Lost in 4th round on penalties after 4-4 draw at FC Utrecht

I spent big on wages bringing in 8 players on frees, solid season with plenty of goals. Started slowly but managed to win the 5th period to get in the play-offs. Beat Volendam over 3 games to set up a tie with Cambuur for a promotion place. We got it to the 3rd deciding game only to loose 5-3 on penalties New SC was a star with 26 league goals.

2009/2010 - FC Eindhoven Eerste Divisie

KNVB Cup - Lost in 4th round 1-0 at Heerenveen

The team was a fade of last season and did not really look bothered. Drew way too many games, missed out on play-offs on goal difference and because Go Ahead Eagles won the 2nd period but finished in 14th place overall. Board are happy with mid table position, but are mad at my extravagant wage bill £25K above budget of £31K, we are £3M in debt even after board cash injections.

2010/2011 - FC Eindhoven Eerste Divisie

KNVB Cup - Lost in 2nd round v Ajax and the board are upset

I insanely decide to state my intentions to challenge for promotion in order to get an extra £8K in wages. Board now decides to invest some money to pay off the baliffs to stop them from taking seats from the stands and my players boots. How wrong was I with my expectations as we fall further and further behind leading pack. We eventually manage 5th finish 16 points behind leaders, but never challenging for promotion, never win any period but qualify for end of season play-offs where we are tonked by the Haarlem Globetrotters over 3 games, drawing the first 0-0.

Our finances are slightly improved now with even more investments but wage budget ever decreasing and the guys want to leave. Roll on another season

FC Eindhoven has been guaranteed to stay in de Eerste Divisie as a professional football team for another year in real life. I'm curious if they'll make it for a longer period though...
