That was close...skin of the teeth time :eek:

We finished 20th, equal on points with the 23rd placed (yep, four of us), so only just avoided relegation on goal difference.

The only plus point was that it was Maidenhead who were relegated in 23rd place so at least we're guaranteed 6 points for next season

Paradoxically we reached the final of the FA Cup, only to be beaten by Tottenham who finished in 17th place in the EPL so no European football next season for us...thank God.

The board are satisfied, the fans less so, but I got another contract for two seasons.

League Cup and Johnstone's were first attempt beating jobs.

Good thing about spending so much time down here is that the youngsters from the *cough* youth academy are starting to filter into the first team squad.

Oho! I currently have a sword suspended above my head by a single strand of hair...and it's beginning to quiver.

18 games gone, lying 24th, I just spoke out of turn about a Referee's decision.

Season 2049/2050

*SNAP!*

The hair broke soon after and my contract was terminated by the board on November 27th.

At around the same time Whitby Town dispensed with the services of their manager, I applied for the job and was offered a two year contract (in effect an 18 month one) on December 1st.

First thing I did was to promote everyone, from the U-18s and the reserves, to the senior squad for a grand total of 27 players, including three goalies and a missing midfield.

I used my scout list from Welling to find three free midfielders, an MC, an AMLC and an AMRC, all Scots, and signed them in time to miss the first game against Tamworth (who handed us a 4-5 reverse) on December 4th.

My predecessor had lost out in the FA Trophy, the FA Cup and the Santa Claus Shield so we only had the league to concentrate on...a good thing as we were bottom, 22nd.

Anyways...Whitby. If it was good enough for Bram Stoker, good enough for Dracula, it was quite good enough for me.

We huffed and puffed, growled and guffawed and finished a creditable 17th in the Conference North.

Next season will be tough as no less than 25 of our players are out of contract and 15 want away.

Bring it on!!!
