For 20-odd years I attended 999 calls, working with Police and Firies, I had reason to ask the Cops what the truth was in CHAV being an acronym for a job title and they literally guffawed.
Bottom line, Ned is a far, far better name anyway | |

Season 2041/2042
Board expectations were pretty much the same this year, except they wanted us to be promoted from League 2.
We were beaten in the 4th Round of the League Cup by West Ham.
We reached the semi-final of the Johnstons' Painter and Decorator van diary thing.
FA Cup was a bit of a success. Beaten in Round 1.
...and we got promotion to League 1 from third place.
More interesting to me, and making me very happy, having sold the Bermudan we're now totally British (and Irish).
This squad's exciting me. I feel great things coming on...

I always thought that the word "Chav" came as a bastardised form of "Resident of Chatham", the Medway town being the place where the term originates from, describing a lower-income individual with delusions of grandeur (and more than likely antisocial behaviour).

According to Wikipedia you guys could all be right...
It seems it's quite unclear where chav actually comes from.
I for one hadn't even heard of the term to be honest. Then again, I'm not English.
