Well what can I say, i'm very close to smashing this game into a million pieces. After being sacked time and time again as manager of PNE, i thought i'd change teams and try my hand with a bit of cash at QPR, well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, you will never guess what, im still losing. After trying 96,000 different tactics, 20 million on players and im still 21st in the league. But yet I can beat W Brom 3-0 and then lose to frigging scunthorpe.
All these people that post on here saying this tactic is guaranteed are lying, I have tried everything and must be about time to trade this game in.
Dont get me wrong I love a challenge, but after playing this game solidly for a week, I'm still not past christmas in my first season after getting sacked so often and starting again.
I've read through loads of stuff on this site because I wasn't getting to grips with the game (not as bad as your situation but I know I have a lot less patience!) I started FM08 on the psp - which in contrast to 360 version is sooo much easier!! But it was getting to the point where I was actually going out instead of sitting on my backside playing FM! - i know.. bad!!! However I ran out of £££ so I had to get back to it, So I took over Tottenham and haven't looked back!!! I came 4th in my first season and I won the euro cup! I did get knocked out of the fa and league cup pretty early on but I'm ok with that.... now! I'm currently in my 2nd season, signed a few players on free's and now i'm top of the league scoring a few goals a game and enjoying playing the damn thing!!! Here are my tactis etc.... Hopefully this can help!!?
I play the 4-1-3-2 formation. I use the arrows to push the right and left back up the field. I also have the 3 attacking players pushing up with the middle one pushing higher than the other two this has been getting me a number of goals whoever I use there. It really helps that I have berbatov in my side but jenas scored 22 goals from midfield last season. I don't bother about team talks, I messed around with that one for ages, whatever I said to my players whether they were on the picth or coming on as subs I couldn't see that it made any difference!!! And most of the time I lost!! I just try and get their confidence/moral up at the end of the game by saying 'well done' or brilliant' to players with a rating over 8 etc.. so allmy players are happy and playing well.
I haven't got a home/away tactic I just use the one above.
I don't know if it makes a difference but I also try and sign better coaches and scouts. I've kept my asst manager but that might change if I find one better!

guy above is right. With a team like QPR, you should have no trouble finishing in the top 4. What tactis are you trying and what approach are you taking towards your team?
i got nottm forest into the championship and darlington into the league after 1st year i loaned zamberla from newcastle he was really good scored 32 goals in 40 games and nottm franco di santo came to me but was a disappointment but with qpr they finished about 6th so dont know where you are going wrong like
I play a modified version of Kimz V2 with no tweaks.
Arsenal 1st ( bought Fernandez VDV and Guilherme)
Reading 6th ( bought Guilherme and GK Bodgan)
Leeds 3rd (1st by 9pts apart from 15pt deduction) Loans Rose and Grimes)
Spurs 9 consecutive title + 6 ECCs etc (On rare occasions I did go defensive against 424)
Ass Man all team talks
No comments to press apart from odd we have cover for injured player.
For more goals add corner cheat (6yd box challange GK).
The Arsenal Reading and Leeds games were all experiments to see if no tweaking worked, without the influx of high quality players, although even with Spurs Robbo,Chimbonda,King, Keane,and Berbs were kept until their CA dropped.
Note this was not on xbox but I know how frustrating this game is fr tactics and odd results.
Using an anti 424 tactic will help (no full back runs).
