Jose Mourinho has been in talks with Internazionale about a return to management, according to his personal advisor Eladio Parames.
The Portuguese has been out of the game since leaving Chelsea last September after his relationship with the Premier League club's board broke down.
It has been reported that Mourinho has been in Italy on Friday in order to engage in discussions with Serie A champions Inter about becoming their coach next season.
"Jose has left for Milan for talks with Inter's directors," Parames told Reuters.
Current incumbent Roberto Mancini's future at Inter has been the subject of intense speculation ever since his announcement that he would step-down from his role at the end of the season, following his side's UEFA Champions League elimination at the hands of Liverpool earlier this season.
He retracted his statement the following day but it would now appear his unexpected announcement may have sealed his fate.
Having made no secret of his desire to manage in Italy or Spain upon leaving Chelsea, it would come as little surprise if Mourinho were to take the reins at Inter.
Mourinho's hugely successful spell with Chelsea saw him deliver two Premier League titles, two League Cups and an FA Cup.

The former Chelsea boss was thought to be in talks with the Serie A champions about taking over at the end of the season, but the Portuguese has told an agency in his homeland that there is no truth in the reports.
A statement issued to Lusa said: "I say categorically that it is not true that I went to Milan, that I met with (Inter president) Massimo Moratti, who I do not have the pleasure of knowing personally.
"It is false to say that I am on the point of agreeing a contract with Inter Milan."
Mourinho has been out of work since leaving Stamford Bridge at the start of the season.
He is the new boss of Inter Milan and most probably Lampard will also join him . He is a great manager and I think Inter will try to retain their championship .
JOse already the manger of Inter. Now he is looking to get Inter back on track. I can see that Inter most probably will become one of the favorite team to win the Champions League. Mourinho is the only "special one". He can win the trophy and make history with the club. All the best Mourinho!
