Just a quick question about logo design....do I really need Illustrator? If I am designing logo's for web use only the wouldn't Pshop be enough? If I decide to create logo's for stationary, etc then I guess I would need Illustrator? Just trying to decide if I REALLY need to spend that money [doh] for another Adobe product. I have Pshop 6.01, Pagemaker 7.01 and Acrobat 5.05.

No Linda, you do not NEED AI.

In fact... if'n ya DO want a great, and much less expensive Vector app, go with XaraX. Trust me, it'll do ya just fine for both Web AND print graphics.

Yes, you can't go wrong with Xara X Linda, I know from personal experience too. It's also one of the most pleasant programs I ever worked with

wow xara looks really neat....... is it better than Illustrator? when I send files to the printers they always want .ai files

Yeah I agree Sue very cool program. Lots that I would want like the 3D and such but I guess my question is the same....does Xara produce a file that the printer can use since the seem to demand .AI files...grrrrr The software will convert to Dreamweaver and Flash but I haven't seen anything about print/file extensions yet but I am still reading... [oops]

yeah let us know what you find there Linda....... just in the last week, I have had to send some Magazine advertising off to 3 different publishers in 3 different states ha ha ha they all wanted .ai files and 300dpi with their usual 'x' pixels by 'x' pixels size so I just figured that printing company's like the .ai files as that is all I have ever been asked to send to any of them [confused]

Well ya of course it creates 'printer friendly' files gals. That was part of my praising slogan above.

.ai files... no problem.
CYMK tifs... no problem.
Image resolution is setup when saving out the file.

Plus... XaraX can read/use most all PS compatible filters too -- i.e. .8bf files (Filter Factory).

Just go to Xara's site from the link i posted above, and read the Features List, checkout the user galleries, and judge for yourself whether it suites your needs. Hell, checkout MY gallery too if ya want! [honesty]
Better than AI? That's completely subjective. My thought is that if it suits your needs at a fraction of the price... then yes, much better than AI. To each their own though when it comes to deciding that.

And there are some extra plugins that certain users have created and give away to Xara users. They're at the "Xarazone.com" site.

DOH!!! I missed that one Mark...geeze! Thanks again for the info! I do like the price for sure and all it offers. Gonna read up on all the little "side" proggies they have like 3D and such to see if I wanna go with any of those as well. B7 B7
