My First FM 2008 Game (Liverpool with 8.02 patch)

Hi all - I've just started a new game as Liverpool (my first fm 2008 game) and I'm also using the newest patch 8.0.2

I'm just at the end of December now and things are going great. I'm top of the league, 1 point ahead of Chelsea, going well in the Champions League and just starting off in the FA Cup. I'm out of the Coca Cola Cup.

Lets start with the formation - I'm using a 3-2-1-2-2, so a 3 at the back, with 2 wing backs. A central (defensive mid about the half way line), 2 AMC's and 2 strikers. I will upload the tactic whn I get time. It is one I found on a thread about barca, and thought it could work for me!

Players out - I got rid of kuyt (5m) and crouch (7m). I also sold pennant (as I am playing quite narrow and don't need wingers / don't overly rate him). I also sold Alonso as 12m was too good to refuse, considering I had Mascherano and Lucas as backup. With this money and the money I started with (28m I think) I went to buying Smile

Players In - I bought a sweeper and got Garay (for 15m I think?). Lots of people were talking about him, my scouts loved him, so I thought why not! I also bought Aguero (for 30m). I've also lined up Riquelme to come in the Jan transfer window (next week) for 15m. I only had 16m left and couldn't get my first choice AMC, Van der Vaart.I also bought Barragan as cover for CB for the 475k buy back clause

Staff:
I replaced pretty much all of the coaches and the assistant. I've very good training now, not quite full 7 star, but it looks ok for now. Left scouts and physios as they are

Reserves / Youth:
I added 7 or 8 players to this, mainly youth players for 100k or less that my scouts recommended. There are a few decent in the reserves for the future I think - Nemeth, Insua etc
Starting team - right now I've got:
sweeper - garay
2 centre backs - carra and agger (with hypia and skrtel as backup)
2 wing backs - riise and finnan (auerlio and arbeloa as backup)
1 def mid - mascherano (lucas as backup)
2 att mids - babel & SG (with kewell & benyoun as backup)
2 strikers - torres & aguero (with voronin as backup)

Things I've noticed:
Voronin is playing great! I tried to sell him at the start, but couldn't. Glad now! Aguero was injured for a bit and he chipped in nicely. Apart from that no surprises but SG, babel, torres, aguero are all playing great.

The league:
I'm top after 19 games, chelsea 1 point off me. I've a GD of 22, and have scored more and conceded less than any other team. I'm also into the knockout of the CL and the 4th round of the FA cup.

Players I want out:
Kewell, Benyoun, Arbeloa. I will also probably sell Carson to free up some money. Le Tallec could go too if anyone is looking.

Players I want in:
- Right Back - I would like to sign a right back - Richards or Alves
- CB - Also I'll need another quality CB as Carra slows a bit. However, playing 3 at the back means he's very seldom caught out on his own
- Striker - would like another decent striker as backup, maybe a 5-10m sort, Owen etc. That I can put in if I get injuries

Contracts:
I renewed Mascheranos, but have not yet for Kewell or Hypia. As I feel they may be too old / not up to it.

Aim:
1) I would love to win the league and the CL of course, I think I'll have a good shout in the league once I get Riquelme next week - he also adds a free kick dimension I currently don't have.

2) I would like to start next season with all my current core, and a Right back and centre back and backup striker

I think this would be better suited to the FM Stories forum though, with a bit of tweaking, I think you could make it into a great series?
