I need some answers if possible. Seems like at the moment I keep responding to the media wrongly as I seem to get beat quite often.
I'm PSV in Holland and I should be in the top 3 and challenging for the league. I'm currently 5th 10 points behind Ajax.
I had a game away against Twente and their Manager started some mind games, so I thought I would give him some back. Was this the right thing to do? Or should I have calmed things down etc? I went on to lose 3-0 and lost 4th place to them.
Next league game against a top half team I said to the media this is a team I expect to beat, but maybe I should have said they could cause us problems but I think we can win.
I don't know. Maybe theres no wrong response, but you need to change things depending on your response.

Why do I keep getting it wrong with the media? Post #2
You should only really "expect to beat" a team if you are at home, and the odds are well in your favour. Otherwise you'll put pressure on your players.

Well this is what I do I seem to be doing, at presnt I seem to be doing alright in the media for a change.
I got involved in the media fight with another manager who started it, so I thought you started it so I'll finish it. However my team thought I was unproffessional. But the season aint over and I will have a few beers and start the media mind games with him again.
Start of the season, I choose the usual, no pressure, you can win today. Then after a while I start setting individual team talks, I expect a performance.
I know mentioned the media but team talks and media comments have an effect on each other.
I keep the media comments to the middle of the road. So if I'm on a good run, the team I am playing against are top class then I would say, we might not necassarily win, I'm just expecting a good performance, or if I am at home then I will say I expect a win, only if moral is high though.
Its a toughy. But I also follow this approach.
Media comment for a few games, then stay quite for a few games, media comment for a few games, stay quite for a few games.
Also if your on a good run, then praise a famous manager at a top club, as I tend to get a nice reply which inspires the team.

Mizza, there's a very good guide in the tactics and training forums by Wolfsong, covers some of the post match stuff as well. Have a read of that, it's worked well for me.

Both of those sound like you're heaping pressure on your team .. I suspect, especially if they're young and/or not extremely professional, that it may be "too much pressure".
You might try downplaying things, and see if they respond better to that.
p.s., Old Git's links are both to phenomenal resources, highly suggest you give 'em a read.
