Genuinely, how much financial control does a manager realistically have at a football club.
I'm not sure if anyone actually knows, but would a manager have a say in how much to charge for season tickets, or would they be able to "suggest" anything relating to finance?
I like the financial model in FM and think it is one of the most realistic features of the game. I would however like to have more input, as above for example, suggesting whether to lower season ticket prices as Bradford have done this year IRL?
Or is this a step too far away from actual management?
Whilst more control might be a nice feature, I think it would all depend on your reputation and standing within the club.
Take fergy as a prime example. The way he spouts of to the media at times you would think he owned and ran Man U not just managed them.
Now while I don't have insider information regarding the club, I can imagine that in fact he probably does have a great deal of influence on the clubs finances, from ticket prices down to shirt sales.
But could you imagine say Neil Warnock at Palace having that degree of authority?
I think this would be down to accountants and managing directors IRL, however i'm sure the manager would have an input, although how much would depend on term of service surely i.e. Ferguson would have more of a say than Keegan etc.
The finance system is an irritant for me as we have o control over it except for player sales and wages yet can get sacked for running into debt. In my Bayern Munich game I am 200k under my wage bill and spent nothing on transfers last season, have no additional payments either, yet I consistently lose roughly 500k a month.
Nahh, there's so many different ticket prices anyway, there's not just one figure. Would be a bit too much. Besides, most Premiership managers would have no idea of how much a ticket might cost.
Reminds me of the Wayne Rooney interview, where he had no idea of how much a pint of milk was. Not because he's stupid, but because it matters not to him
The manager may make suggestions at some clubs, but he certainly wouldn't make the financial decisions. Unless he is like Barry Fry at Peterborough before the Irish fella took over.
