Default How to create smooth edges

Hi,

I am making some kits but the edges always appear rugged, is there a certain way that the kits are done to make them smooth?

Thanks for any help

What do you mean?

I have got a picture from colours of football and have coloured the background a different colour and then used psp to make that colour transparent.
Is there a way to colour the background in so it is smoother?

Thanks

Suggest using a Magic wand to select the transparent background colour. Then Inverse-ing the selection.(This effectively selects the kit)

By applying a feather to the cutting brush (Approx 1-2 pixel) it will then blend the edges of the selection when you cut out out.

Wipe over original (Now empty) background with a bit of the transparent colour (To erase all trace of the unfeathered image), then paste the kit back in...

And there we have it, smooth edges...

Of course I'm working from memory here coz my PSP is at work and I only have Photoshop at home...

thanks mate,

I have no experience with PSP so dont know what you are talking about

If you could make it clearer what to do e.g. where this magic wand is located and what i am meant to do with it.

If you can be bothered to go into more detail i will be very appreciated.

Thanks for any help

The Magic wand in in a drop down box, four icons down...

You click with the left button to change the selection type, then pick the wand image.

Next click on the transperent background, if all background is selected then continue, if not, then hold shift and click the unconnectted areas (Ones you want transperent)

Then Click Selections from the main menu, then Invert from the drop down.

Then click Selections again, then Modify, then Inside/Outside Feather. Set the feather to 2 Pixels, and Cut the selection by selecting Edit, then Cut.

Then click Selection, then Select None. Use the eye dropper tool (6th Icon down) and left click in the empty window.

Select the Brush tool (7th Icon down), make the area larger, (Change the Size: setting) around 100 will do, wipe all the empty window.

Finally Edit,Paste, then Paste as new selection... Then Save...

Hope this helps...

cheers mate, excellent
however i still have rough edges, i think it is due to me not coloring in all the background pixels.
This is because it is hard to see which are the background and which are not, is there any other way of using the colours-of-football shirts to create kits in FM?

How can i colour all the background pixels in?

Thanks

actually i have done it how you said, but you didnt say how to make the background transparent. Do i export it as a PNG and use the background as the transparent colour?

Doing it the way you said i am still finding white pixels around the shirt

Thanks

Try Using the magic wand to select just the kit. Then repeat from step 5.

The stray errent white pixels are indeed due to not removing all background colour during transparent selection.

By just cutting the kit (With Feathering ofcourse) you reduce the number of outside edge pixels by the said ammount (2)
You then need to make the background a block colour that doesn't appear in the kit (Because you'll make this transparent)

To change the transparency. Click Image, Pallete, Set Tranparency. Then mark Set transparency to Palette Entry. Then hover over your image and select the block background colour...
