I`ve done a search and read the threads and Graphics and Skinning FAQ but even when I follow the instructions in Volkens post

"11 - HOW CAN I CHANGE THE BACKGROUND PICTURE IN FM?/ADD MORE BACKGROUNDS?

In FM you can no longer at present add extra backgrounds to the game as it is not a supported feature. The box in preferences will not work whatever you do and was intended for use only if the feature was added.

You can change the background picture by swapping the default picuture with a picture of your choice. Try and make sure its size is 1024x768 and it must be named "default.jpg" and be put in the following folder:

CProgram Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2005\data\graphics\backgrounds\"

I still end up with a black screen rather than the picture I added to the backgrounds folder .

Being a computer muppet I`m obviously doing something wrong .

Can anybody give me an idiots guide , please ?

Are you sure your pic is a .jpg? If it's a .bmp or some other format, simply renaming it a .jpg will not do, you have to properly reformat it. Encountered this problem the first time I tried to change the bacground.

And if you're using another skin than the default ones, it might have it's own "background" folder - then you have to put your pic in there.

Step 1. You cannot change backgrounds unless you change the default.jpg.

Thanks Thomit , problem solved . I realised what I`d done after I posted the question . D`oh ! :thup:
