Right, i have downloaded the stone skin and followed the instructions and extracted it into the skin file. But to get it to work do i have to delete the other skin or is there some other way to get it to work?

if you've got the stone skin folder (which is named 'stone') in:
C:/Program Files/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2005/data/skins

Then load up FM and go to the preferences menu and you should be able to select it from the drop down list

I've put the stone & MOTD skins in the skins folder, and they won't show up in the menu in FM, what do I do now???

have you extracted the .zip files?

unzip the .zip files using winzip then put the folder in the skins directory...

Have unzipped them into there, still puzzled though.
