Anyone else had success playing Quick tempo, with short passing?
I know that passing and tempo are "linked" and when you play with quick tempo your ment to use more direct style of passing, but WHY? I've being playing a quick 'n' short game now for a season and a half with v.good success, the boys in midfield play a lovely fast paced short passing attacking game (mentality quite attacking 4-4-2) which usually culminates in a goal, and more often than not the comentary reads "that was a lovely move by tottenham, or that was a good team goal. etc etc..." I do confess however to putting my wingbacks on direct passing as they where getting caught in possesion a few times. Plus having them play more directly ment they passed to the wingers who ran with the ball up the field. which was nice. Also my center backs have there passing set to mixed/direct, so they can best choose how to get rid of the ball when they are being pressed but other than that everyone else is set to quick 'n' short. So if anybody else has had success or failure when playing a quick 'n' short game I'd love to hear from you, or if you just want to comment with your theories/suggestions etc please post away!!
cheers Paulo

I've played the same way with Valencia. Tried direct passing and quick tempo to begin with, but the performances were disappointing. Switched to short passing and I've just won La Liga and the CL first season.
Only problem is the wingers and full backs especially, get caught in possession too often and I haven't worked out a solution yet.

Just used it in Div 2 with my newly promoted side, playing a short passing game with high tempo set to high width. Won the opening match 2-0. Not bad. I think it should work provided your players have the necessary workrate and stamina and the frontliners need to have good Off the ball skills. My side has good off the ball skills.

In FM06 my club did very well on short passing and quick tempo. I had an attacking mentality and technicaly inclined players and was trying to play something akin to Carpet Football. Played a funky 3-4-2-1 formation with forward running wingers and 2 AMCs. Despite the quick tempo I pretty much always had more possesion than the opponent even when I lost and basicaly the only one mayor issue I was having was with the defenders in the setting up stage of the attack (and up high on the field due to their mentality) struggling to find a middfielder open for a pass (and sometimes passing badly opening itself for a counter - maybe because I only had big strong hacks for defenders without any creativity and so on ). Once that first pass was done though the attack was mostly very much a threat and something nice to look at.
