I had mine set up with the left striker an arrow to FL position, centre striker backwards arrows, and the FR an arrow to SC position

I'm going to work on my first tactic in the demo. Does the old rule of 2 still work?
Also curious to know how a back three is working in this version, I've never been able to succeed with it in the past.

And those tweaks are...? And why should they result in theories being rexamined...?

Anyway, I haven't played many matches on the demo, but here's an observation or two:

- I played a friendly against a team that used a sweeper. At the mo, I can't remember if it was a 1-4-3-2, or a 1-3-4-2, but in any case, I think that was a new opp formation for us to deal with. Can anyone else confirm if this one ever showed up on a comp controlled team in 06?

- Timewasting seems to be more apparent this time around. One of my players blatantly ran to the flag and more than once a player would just stand there with his foot on the ball, waiting for the opp to come at him.

- And one of the 'hints and tips' that flash on the screen when you hit 'continue' said something to the effect of 'Use timewasting near the end of a game to kill it off. But be careful and don't use it too early.' For the people that use higher timewasting all throughout the match -- is this hurting your team's play?

- Opps still go to the 4-2-4 in the closing minutes when they're chasing a lead, but my remedy from 06 -- a mentality around 8, keeping fullbacks back (fws on rarely), making passing more direct, and ticking counterattack -- resulted in goals for the opp two games out of three.

- There was a lot of discussion for 06 about how marking was pretty problematic. Anyone have any observations about the effects of man vs. zonal, and/or tight marking? (I don't.)

And finally, so far I'm using the same tactical settings I used in 06. (And yes, Justified, I'm also a bit disappointed that the tactical options seem more or less exactly like 06.) But in any case, one of the biggest questions that needs answering is: does using your old 06 tactics work, or do you need to change your tactical approach for 07?

You've got a successful 4-4-2 diamond for 06?
I love diamonds but have had no luck with them in 06 whether it was creating my own or trying someone elses.

Heh I just lost 4-2 as Arsenal to Man City. I was completely dominated as well. Obviously I'm not doing something right!!

I think that player selection makes a big part. Against Man City I didn't do my homework, so I had a few mismatches in the defensive line. The played direct and I couldn't deal with the Samaras' heading until I made some changes at half time.

I'm also having ALOT of trouble keeping the ball on the ground. I have short passing maxxed out, little creativity except for my playmaker, but too many long balls were going back and forth and I was losing posession in the air. Maybe it's my mentalities?

Short passing maxed out means your players will play more of a one touch style of play, so make sure most mentalities are close to each other. One touch passing also becomes easier if you play global mentality

Well my first friendly as Sporting Lisbon against Man U, thumped 5-0, they had 18 shots I didn't have one.

Started with the preset 4-4-2 diamond. Made some minor tweaks, left all the mentalitys except for the 2 CBs and GK for first match just so I can see how it goes. Shocking.

I need attacking mentality on GK for him to play sweeper role right? What about closing down?

Milan Baroš : My GK has team mentality (14) and closing down rarely (5) and is seems to work very good

I did say the engine itself has improved I was just disappointed by the lack of new options. Tactically there is nothing new added except the halftime opposition tactics screen. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Have you tried the opposition instruction options Justified?
