Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Any hoo, I'm a bit disappointed so far in FM07. Apart from the halftime thingy there is nothing new to the tactics side and for me that's disappointing as there are a few things that could of been added. I guess FM08 will focus more on the tactics engine but IMO FM07 is FM06 with a better scouting engine.
And with a vastly improved database. And player interaction. And a proper youth system. And feeder clubs. And lots of annoying little bugs from previous games fixed (like no coach development :thup.

(I know you were exaggerating)

I meant tactics-wise. There are no new options, the engine itself has improved but there is no new way to go about playing. I will most likely still buy FM07 but I'm as happy as peach with FM06 atm.

I think you are being a bit hasty Justified. There seem to have been a fair few tweaks in the engine if you ask me which might result in certain theories having to be re-examined.

I did say the engine itself has improved I was just disappointed by the lack of new options. Tactically there is nothing new added except the halftime opposition tactics screen.

Yeah, its funny though, even having my fullbacks on forward runs always, they never get caught at the back by wingers, maybe my fullbacks are fast enough?

Also, I'm having this problem where when one of my player has the ball, he stalls for 1.5 secs and plays a bad pass, Fabregas did this a couple of times even though had Quick tempo and Short passing.

Anyway, played 7 games with Arse, won 3, drawn 2, lost 2.

I actually beat chelsea by using a 4-4-2 with the wingers having farrows up to the strikers.
Carragher scored a header, and I really dominated the game.
GK: Reina
DL: Riise
DR: Srna ( still a good player )
DC: Carragher
DC: Hyypia
MR: Pennant
ML: Garcia
MC (defesive mentality ) : Xabi Alonso
MC (attacking mentality) : Gerrard
SC: Kuyt
SC: Crouch

Mentality: Attacking, almost full out
Creative Freedom: Plenty of it
Passing style: Direct
Width: Normal on the wide side
Closing down: Often
Time Wasting: Rarely
Defensive Line: Normal
Tackling: Normal
Counter attack: on

Wingers have the guidelines to make runs often, cross from byline, and pick out crouch. Works very well.
Using this I hardly gave them a chance, and when they got one they were very poor, reina just picked it up.

So a 4-4-2 seems a decent tactic.

Other results:
2-1 vs Dortmund ( FR )
0-1 vs Athletic ( FR )
4-2 vs Shalke ( FR )
4-1 vs Ruzomberok ( CL )
1-0 vs Chelsea ( CS )
1-0 vs Villa ( Prem )
1-1 vs Ruzomberok ( CL )
2-0 vs Bolton ( Prem )

They seem close games, but they have the superkeepersyndrome, and one chance is enough to score obviously...maybe i need to tweak my defence, because if they get a chance it's in.

I hope some changes are being made to the full product, as my strikers are very decent, yet there have been 0 goals from the plenty 1v1 situations the tactic creates ( actually created by Garcia :p )

ntfc: Yeah, Atlético

I've just sold Maxi RodrÃ*guez to Arsenal for 16,5 million Euros. An excellent player, but Maniche is more used to MC/MR role with some defensive duties . I'm going to sell Martin Petrov too, he simply doesn't fit into my system, but he has rejected a contract offer from Spurs.

Not tested this version too much, only few friendlies, but the new features look very promising and the match engine is greatly improved IMHO, some moves look really lovely (Agüero's dribbling, Agüero's volleys and half volleys and Agüero's partnership with Torres ).

So far I've only played for a couple of hours.

Already I've noted that 'superkeeper' and players being useless at one-on-ones are rearing their ugly heads again.

This is not good augury. FM lives and breathes on its match engine, it's why the last one was so poor. Let's hope I see some, any, kind of improvement in the engine.

The 3 man attack is working a treat once again - creating chances galore and scoring loads \0/
