One thing I am struggling to get working is to have my full backs tucking in and playing closer to the centre backs. Not because I'm desperate to play like this, I just can't seem to make it happen when I am testing.
My width is set to 8 and my defensive line is also 8. All defenders mentalities and closing down are 6. I am playing through the middle, they're on low creative freedom and rarely cross ball.
Yet when I gain posession, the first thing they do is hug the flanks.
Have you tried giving them sarrows? Since there are already centre-backs there, you'd hope they wont double up, but get closer still. Might be worth a shot.
Right, I decided to just get started and tweaks things on the go. So, I created the following tactic for now. This tactic has been designed to play home and away against all teams except for Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool and the big European teams. Im using screenshots because a picture says more then a thousand words.
I guess that looks pretty decent, but perhaps someone can already spot some flaws in my tactic, or have suggestion for improvement. Ive had in the past that I had a great pre-season, but once we got to competitive matches, it wasnt as succesfull anymore already.
I decided to have my wing forwards all the way up because they simple create most threat from there, and this way my profile will show 4-3-3 as my favourite formation. With the wingers in AMR/L spot with farrows it will show 4-5-1. I really want it to show 4-3-3 because thats what it is, 4-5-1 sounds too defensive :p

And what about training?
Despite having 4 & 5 ratings in everything, top training facilities etc. NOT ONE single player seems to have actually improved in ANY attribute!
I didn't notice any significant improvements until pre-season 2nd season started (now a lot of my players have come leaps and bounds).
The attributes seems to fluctate more during the season than in FM2006 from what I've gathered so far

I do know of someone else who's being banging in an average of 6 goals a match.
I'll test it for you too if you'd like? I'd like to see how you've set the 343 up. E-Mail's in profile
After being sacked by Lewes, I've decided not to play ultra defensivley!
Instead, loaded up a 4-1-3-2 that I had for FM06 (though I can't remember using it). Not too bad initially, but then I saw a Hint (in game) saying that Tempo and Passing Style are tied in together, so a short passing style would suit a slow build up, whilst a direct passing style would warrant a quicker tempo.
Changed passing from 9 to 12 (ish), and destroyed Sailsbury 3-0 at home.

I've been hearing that a fair bit, seem to recall seeing threads bout players not improving as much, in the match engine, the improving training attributes do play a significant role in how your team performs on the pitch. You tend to see more variety late in the season when it comes to attacking styles, or it could be my bleeding imagination. I tend to be seeing things now in my old age

rashidi do you kind sending me your 3-4-3 tactic cause i seem to struggle with it....
or give some details for instructions.
thx.
I win 7-0 one match and then I win 1-0 in another..I'm not ready to post it...and I don't want to start discussing something that could possibly lead people to the wrong conclusions. Its defensively ok....but I just finished a boxing match with Chelsea..we score one they score 1 a minute later..then we score and then they score...match finished 4-3...sheer entertainment, but i don't think many people will appreciate my desire to inflict grief on myself

I think you may have a point, i was playing a fairly pacy game, but on short passing and something was missing, I've upped my passing to mixed and in the 1 game I've tried it so far i am a lot happier with my sides attack.
Gave the low CD/tight marking suggestion a shot with my centre-backs rash; and it looks promising so far- two clean sheets. The goals have dried up now though- although I'm sure these changes have nothing to do with it.
