Rashidi: Have you found your high DL with low CD works well for most tactics? Or is it just a coincidence (of sorts) that it works with your 3-4-3?
If it turns out to be one of those things that 'just works' in '07 i would be a little disappointed as irl playing in this way is pretty much suicide.

Its not consistent. I may start making other formations because its hard to judge from a 343 only. I've found that against good sides, i need to increase closing down upfront. I seem to be able to generate 58% possession but my shot count is always lower than the opposition

| Absolutely correct!
Doesn´t it say on Hints and Tips something in the line of "-Passing style and tempo are linked. A short passing game works best with a slower tempo, whilst a direct, counter attacking style needs to be swift and quick."
But is it possible to have passing on mixed all over the boeard and controll the lenght of the passes by tinkering the tempo slider?
Have to check that out when I get home from work! |

I hate tactics in FM 2007 (though it is the demo) even wordse than in FM2006. I don't want to spend hours and hours in developing tactics fit to each opponent, but like to play and see my chalange in buying good players en make them better with minimum opportunities. That's the fun of FM2007 in my opinion.
When I say 'attack' I want to see that my team attacks in order to create opportunities (it doesn't matter if they do score a goal or not) but inspite they don't create anything the whole match when my opponent is in lead. But when I'm leading the game and I say 'defend' I want to see my team defend, but no !!! my opponent creates a dozen chances in front of my goal in a few minutes time and in no time I'm two goals behind.
Naturally I don't use the attack button only, but try to be as thorougly as possible in my tactics without spending too much time with it.
I think it's a shame for such a wonderfull game as FM 2006/7 because I've played it for almost 10 years

Could some one help me with striker instructions please.
im looking to create a colid flat 4-4-2 keeping the defense and midfield very defensive. the plan is to use it away from home with my fulham team.
would it be possible to have just the 2 strikers attack. i thought maybe i could play a long ball with a target man but ive no idea how to get the two striker to work together. i would apriciate any advice or links to help me set the striker instructions.

Can we edit the name of the thread now and get rid of the gold demo title since the full game has now been officially released?

Unlucky Rash- at least you can focus purely on the tactics and prepare completely for the new game. I've realised that I haven't set up any training schedules or anything yet.

I'm glad the full game is out because I don't have to keep starting again now, I can actually do a full season with a tactic and test it properly

I've finally settled on a way to make a tactic both solid defensively and good at creating good opportunities, the thing that bugs me is the number of shots on goal. We did beat Chelsea easily 3-1 limiting them to just 4 shots on my goal.
Things that seem to keep knocking on my door:
1. If you play with 2 strikers up front, don't worry about giving them both cross ball, its better to see them cross a ball instead of trying to shoot from an impossible angle. which they almost always do.
2. Having a centrally placed AMC is a gem, in counterattacks he's usually the one who sets the strikers off, and if you have one who tackles well, then its even better. The best combo is one who has pace, tackles well and is able to pass the ball well. There are some really good players in the game and some of them are worth a pittance.
3. You can mix and match passing for your team, the way you set up your passing instructions, has a great bearing on your counterattacking game. If you use a 442 with attacking flanks. Then giving the flanks direct passing is a much better idea. However this is not good for all teams. Direct passing demands that you have passing of at least 15 in the premiership to work. If your players are not good at passing and have poor decisons, do not use direct passing.
4. The best players to have direct passing are AMC, DM and the fullbacks. If you use a sweeper and you'd probably be a rare breed, then if he has good passing. Having the SW on direct passing is very positive and very damaging to a team, especially if you use wide wingers or wingforwards (433s).
5. What about defensive lines? I used to use width as my magic " go get goals" button. Now I seem to think it could be a combination of width and defensive line. If I push my DL up and I have a DM, then he gets involved in attack. But the downside is the counterattacking AI, which has been improved in this edition.
6. Is it better to have 3 strikers or is using 1 better. For now I'm not sure. I still think the most devastating formation is the 343, the problem I've had is to make it consistently bang in 4 goals a match. That has been well nigh impossible becos the AI somehow has decided to treat one of my wingforwards as a midfielder which is really strange. Instead of having a direct route to goal, I now have 1 FC dropping all the way to midfield and sometimes defense. Having figured out how to make all three of them stay up. So for now I think the best is still a 2 striker combo. Instead of Big/Small, I believe in the Fast/Fast...and setting both of them to cross ball, can you imagine the mayhem that creates. Who are you going to mark?
7. Timewasting. Well I can't be arsed about it. People have an opinion now that it does nothing but do what it is supposed to do, well even when I have it on low settings it appears that my players dawdle. In 06 it would appear that TW on high meant that your players took their time to pass the ball around to create the right chance.
I still think that holds true when you combine it with tempo. So I now play my games with moderate to high tempo, usu 12 and then set TW to 6. Works well for me, my players still knockabout and go for goals.
8. I'm pretty happy with the defensive end of the game. I now have to up my goal shot count. I average 10 a game, I need to raise that to 20..and I think it lies with both width and creative freedom. I just haven't figured that out yet.
9. Ah...making a back 3 work. In order for them to work, they had better be good, pacey defenders who can also PASS the ball. If you want to play a back 3 formation and can't figure out why you're not performing its probably because half the balls that come out of your defense go to the opposing side.
Now to get ready for ECL action tonite
