so far working on a 4-5-1 formation with leicester. got 2 trying and tinkering with tried altering midmatch as they change their tactics. pre season well and 3 wins 1 loss 2 draws with prem op.
4 matches iun season 2wins 2draws
averaging abot 70%^ passes and 80% tackling.
Defence is good and midfield/attack medicore.
kept all settings for defence same fullbacks are allowed to move forward on mixed. all defence on through ball ? seems ok for long passes out to wingers.
DM centre mid guy is barrow and same settings as the mid he covers infront of defence well while allowing the others to move around almost same CD as the defence just a bit higher.
other midss farrow normal mentallity and settings to suit them.
2 wingers farrows completly forward and free role. they still defend
Lone striker on attacking seems ok plenty movement and goals. (matty fryatt)
ian hume is useless....7 missed clear goal chances lol

I decided to run a few matches with pacey defenders, playing a high d-line and a 3 man defense. Its a heck of a way to exploit your own tactical flaws Well I will concede that .
a: Playing a high d-line is almost suicidal, there is a range you can settle at. The idea that it matches the defensive third sounds like a good idea.
b. Offsides don't work when you play a high dline. Not for me at least. I turned it off halfway through the match and I had more decisions go my way.
c. When playing with a really low d-line...somewhere around 6-8, it seems really too close for comfort. So I matched it with the lowest placed midfielder. The idea was to reduce the gap between the midfielder and defenders. I'm not sure if this will work better than having it at the lowest setting.
The tactical templates can be found in C:Sports Interactive/Data/Tactics...go to the template its an xml file, use notepad..make your changes and save. Before doing all that be sure to back-up the original file.
I was thinking of putting up my templates, but I don't think thats a good idea, cos each one of us has a peculiar style of play, furthermore, I ain't too happy with mine yet...but it does speed up play for me.

I always use D-Line equal to most offensive midfielder or some value near his mentality and until now I never got a goal from gaps between D-Line and M-Line. Thy always come from 30 yards crosses or dead balls.

Tell you what, these deep diagonal passes/crosses from the opposition fullbacks/wingers are starting to really pi$$ me off
Wanted to play a Xmas tree formation with Liverpool and have been forced to scrap the idea because of it.

All this talk got me fired up, so i am joining the cause, the search for tactical nirvana. I am starting the exp with Valencia at first to get the basis of a tactic.
So far i have a 442 diamond, with a barrow on the AMC. slow tempo, narrow formation, high closing down. I am having the wingers on high CF, coupled with counter attack and pace, is looking quite deadly.
If anyone is interested i have used universal mentality and a fairly deep defensive line. I will spend alot of tonight developing and testing, will feed back.

The thing is I always concede goals from deep diagonal passes/crosses, always, and mostly the are headers. I beginning to thing the ai is not able to score in a different way. I havent found a way to stop this yet.

I do use individual instructions, but not every one and explaining all of them would take too much time. A screenshot of the formation and the team instructions should already give the big picture.
