Shame it's only 6 months because I would of loved to strengthen this Liverpool side. I'm in definate need of a right back because I only have Finnan and tbh he's always underrated on FM. Also Kuyt isn't as good as I tought he would be so I need another striker with Fowler not grabbing a single goal as a fourth choice striker and Pennant is not good enough to play my 4-2-3-1 really and would only do good as a backup to a class right winger. Who would I buy? Simao, Defoe and Young who have impressed me so far.
| You could just buy Srna, he can play along the whole wing on both sides, but he prefers right.
I bought him for liverpool and he's been doing great, 2 games 3 assists, and other usefull things you don't really expect from a right back, very involved with the buildup
I can really recomend him, alltough he was a bit pricy for me, 5mil. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Ah well you see I play in a specific way. I only buy players my scouts recommend If they don't find em I don't buy em as I see it as unrealistic in a way. Obviously there is "word of mouth" but I exclude that. Makes the game that little more intresting </BLOCKQUOTE>
Haha, I do the same, only I include players I've seen play IRL and know they are pretty decent |

| The former, certainly. As Justified has already said the only "new" feature really is the "opposition team instructions;" and if you're a passive manager (like me) as opposed to a reactive one you won't really touch them. The scope is there though. Quote: |
Do your old strategies still work?
| Due to work commitments I've only played a handful of competitive games thus far; and my old Slider Apathy routine hasn't been too succesful thus far, although I've hardly been comprehensive in my testing, and only used one team. I've found my teams have been fairly profligate in front of goal: I'm not sure whether this is due to excessive creative freedom or a new emphasis on the effects of tempo. I've reduced the former and look forward to the results. This may be the reason people are still harping on about the "superkeeper" myth: it certainly seems that my players are more wasteful than in FM2006. Quote: |
What, if any, are the obvious differences in the game engine?
| Aside from the above, individual instructions seem to be more effective too. My full-backs are flying forward at every opportunity (with forward runs often), even with low creative freedom and low/normal mentality. Run with ball seems to have been tweaked slightly too, resulting in some scintilating wing play- players seem much more keen on taking players on, and in this context a balance seems to have been found between '05 and '06. Quote: |
Are the 'hoary old chestnuts' the results of inept tactics, or are you seeing them too?
| I've always believed that they were, and maintain that with what I've seen of 2007 thus far. I think that the graphical representation has made these factors all the more obvious. As I alluded to above, when playing a fast-tempo, high creative freedom game my players were snatching at chances and hitting long shots when not instructed to. So yes I'm seeing them, but I'm currently working on rectifying them...
Watch this space! Quote: |
Is there still an imbalance of goals for front players i.e. a goal per game ratio or thereabouts?
| Not really played enough yet to acknowledge any trends. Quote: |
Are pre-game team talks as important as half-time ones were in '06, i.e. can a bad pre-game talk lead to an 'out of character' performance'?
| As above. Quote: |
Does excessive closing down combined with heavy use of forward runs and farrows still tire players out to the extent that late match comebacks are inevitable (without decent use of substitutes)?
| Not that I've seen- even playing with plenty of forward runs and closing down set to maximum. Quote: |
Does man-marking still look dodgy when the opposition restructures its formation and the player your DC was originally marking is now playing on the wing?
| Not something the passive manager deploys! Quote: |
Does the AI use the 3-3-2-1-1 system and is it still hard to break down (to test this it will be necessary to use reasonably standard formation set-ups rather than those previosuly devised to counter it in '06)?
| Not something I keep an eye on (as above!). Quote: |
And, most importantly, is it fun?
| Hell yeah! I'm still adapting my tactical style to the new game at the moment- and it's hard- but I'm enjoying every minute. The engine is lucid and at times beautiful to watch. Seeing Henry drop deep into the left wing, turn and motor past two defenders before finishing with his right instep is something I never tire of seeing, and it's all the sweeter when I see it in FM2007 with myself in the dug-out. The new features are excellent too- the player interaction and feeder clubs providing some new interest.

Damn. Maybe I'll start again tommorow. Here's my defensive instructions, maybe someone would provide some help?
I had deep defensive line with attacking mentality, no tight marking and zonal.
CB - Closing down rarely, Ultra defensive, Little CF.
Fullbacks - Closing down mixed, Normal, Little CF.
I've tried reducing those, didn't work, also, my defenders always give away possesion even on short passing.
| As loathe as I am to help an Arsenal manager...
...I had a lot of probelms with my defence in my initial run through the demo. Secind time around, and my Spurs team is watertight.
I'm playing a diamond 4-4-2, with slightly different settings home and away. At home I have a high defensive line, zonal marking, tight marking for the CD's, DMC and CD's on halfway to the left on the mentality slider, and fullbacks in the middle (so they're not too far away from the wingers). Very little closing down for the whole back four, but the DMC runs about like a headless chicken chasing the ball.
It's worked really well, I've secured a fair few 1-0's and only shipped two goals once (at Old Trafford). More importantly, I don't look full of holes, and I'm hardly giving away anything in open play. Away from home, I drop the defensive line deeper, nudge the mentality a couple of places towards defensive across the board, and play on the counter attack.
I'm finding a lot of injuries are fairly common (Lennon broke his leg ), mostly through in game incidents. I'm also very wary about time wasting too early, after Defoe spurned a one on one with the keeper and ran 40 yards to the corner flag instead!
Oh, and for any Spurs players out there, £14m for Stuart Downing is money well spent...

I've only had time to a couple of friendlies, but must say the signs are good. These two boys have got so much skill, they'll probably make a significant difference to my Hammers team. I bet they'll make West Ham one of the more tempting sides to manage for gamers who don't bleed claret and blue like we Hammers do (I made that rhyme on purpose you know :cool |

Yeah im sure they will be quite popular
Try setting Tevez as your TM and supply to feet,i tried this on my network game(was chosen as the hammers) and he was on fire.
Of course this was FM2006 but his stats can't of changed that much + the tacticl engine has not changed significantly.

The super keeper thing was never much of an issue for me - the problem seemed to be more that the keeper got an incredible rating, despite hardly any of my chances being that clear, thanks to massed defending.
I never got a problem with midfielders and fullbacks failing to muck in with goals, either. All of my Pro Vercelli midfielders in FM06 regularly get forward and score, with a bog standard 442.
Demo plays nicely at first glance, passing looks a heck of a lot better. My first port of call with the full game will be to revisit the Belarusian 2nd tier or Serie C2 and get some serious negativity going, I think. 1-4-1-3-1 I think. Yum.
I'm also dying to see whether I can finally get the Glerean 3-3-4 to work, now that back 3s seem a little more stable.
