It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

A diamond at home with Reina; Finnan-Carra-Agger-Riise; Alonso; Pennant, Gonzalez; Gerrard; Kuyt, Bellamy

Away I play 4-2-3-1 with Reina; Finnan-Carra-Agger-Aurelio; Alonso, Sissoko; Gerrard, Kewell, Gonzalez; Crouch

Simple reasons really for change in personel. Arelio is better going forward then Riise so he fits better into a system where fullbacks are heavily involved. Crouch in a one up front system works well when he has Gerrard, Kewell and Gonzalez around him and Gerrard and Gonzalez feed in crosses to him as well. Gerrards role in the diamond is a bit diffrent where we play wide and get the ball out wide for the wingers to run to the byeline and Gerrard should be able to sneak into the box and head in a few crosses.

Playing to Liverpool's strengths really

Oh yeah, in one match I had Crouch and Bellamy upfront and I gave Bellamy (I think he was the left FC) a sarrow and kept Crouch as he was and gave Bellamy a crossing instruction. Time and time again he got behind the opponents fullback and he fed in crosses to Crouch all the while. Definatly worth looking at

Well I've gotten to a point where I have a template I try and use for all my teams. Obviously if it's a poor team you have to try and accomodate with what's available but a club with cash it's a bit easier. However in all FM versions it has been really to a users advantage if you have a striker with jumping, heading and stength all over 16 (at least). Think of the Klose type of striker. Mind you Klose has the added pace and bravery which makes him even more dangerous. Partner that with a pacy striker or an attackingly aware AMC and they'll score buckets.

I always do in the friendlies. The friendlies for me take ages to play through because I base a lot around how it goes in those matches. Who plays well together? What partnership is the best? Is he still good at 30+? Is he good enough yet to play at this level? So my friendlies play a big role in a contract renewels, team selection, where are the strengths and weaknesses etc ect..

Tbh i usually go for a different approach

IMO friendlies can be for two things either to gain practice and stablish my team and their roles(what you stated)

When it comes to fine tuning my tactic i now wait for the competitive games.Just a thing i do

Shame it's only 6 months because I would of loved to strengthen this Liverpool side. I'm in definate need of a right back because I only have Finnan and tbh he's always underrated on FM. Also Kuyt isn't as good as I tought he would be so I need another striker with Fowler not grabbing a single goal as a fourth choice striker and Pennant is not good enough to play my 4-2-3-1 really and would only do good as a backup to a class right winger. Who would I buy? Simao, Defoe and Young who have impressed me so far.
