Question 1 - what exactly does mentality affect? Is it purely the positioning of the player, or also how much he looks to attack/defend as the case may be, or both, or something else?

I would like to know in 8.02 is why every average player or less than average player can can cross an inch perfect ball.Also why on even on extended highlights every action starts from out or free kick. Also midfield players are closing down the defenders and get drawn from their position too often. For this particular problem the solution might be that attackers play their defensive role and when not having possession get all the way to the center.In 7.02 defensive part was so much better but the offensive sucked now we have complete opposite.

My question on training in 8.0.2

You say you've tweaked things so that players progress in their physical attributes much less than before. does this therefore mean that strength and aerobic training is less important and so it would be better to notch up the other categories?

Btw, where are Paul's answers due to appear Cleon? A thread on this forum?
