Default new computer - Vista or XP?

Hi,

I have just ordered a new laptop

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...e.html?NNB-597

should be meaty enough to play FM with a good few leagues running!

the question is this though:

I chose Vista as operating system. should i have gone for XP? with SP3 around the corner, there is talk of XP being twice as fast as the resource hungry Vista operating system.

can SI/admin/ somebody in the know tell me what kind of performance difference is should expect to see between the two o/s? is Vista much worse for FM? i still have time to switch back to XP before they ship it to me.

any help here would be GREATLY appreciated. I wont use the laptop for too much other than a few games and football manager.

thanks guys,

Rich

A lot of people starting topics about what pc they should be buying.

Why not ask this sort of stuff at http://www.hardforum.com/index.php or http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/categories-list.htm or do some google research.

Vista is the way to go, actually a must, since u have 4gb ram in that hardware, xp can't even use 4gb.
In my experience, im using Vista 64 atm, it is rock solid, only about 0.5-1% difference in gaming speed compared to 32bit XP, and when even more drivers update, it will get only better, u didn't mention about 32bit/64bit, but I would recommend 64bit for sure, it just rocks with the current drivers.

Agreed. Although it seems Vista uses ALOT of RAM on my pc, but if you have plenty of memory go for it

1) XP doesn't actually need 4GB because it's not as insanely resource hungry as Vista.

2) Unless you actually want to do something other than play FM, in which case stick with 32 bit which is much more compatible. The 64-bit speed increase is negligable for all the hassle it gives.
