I often here people say you should have width set to narrow for away games, but then people also say concentrate on passing it down the flanks, isn't this contradictive?

Sounds like it, doesn't it, but, If you arn't in possesion of the ball you'll notice your team narrow, once you gain the ball your team fans out a little even on narrow. It's a question of how much. If you pass down the flanks this I suppose in theory will pull their defence/midfield out a bit and make space for you.
After saaying that...I have a very good home record but my away record is as patchy as hell, with a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham, 3-0 defeat to both Chelsea and Everton being the most recent..back to the drawing boards

SIDE ARROW YOUR STRIKERS TOO. AND TICK COUNTER ATTACK. BELLAMYS PACE IS AN ASSET AND HAS BAGGED LOADS ON THE BREAK AWAY FROM HOME FOR ME, AND EVEN CREATED ALOT OF GOALS FOR CROUCH. ALSO MAKE SURE YOU PLAY DIRECT AND TEMPO ABOVE 10.
