I have read through TT&F and used the search (ctrl+f) function, so I apologize if I miss anything.
I was just wondering from a tactical standpoint what the playmaker and targetmen serve as.
The way I always saw it was that a target man was one you would look to get the ball to and he would try to put it in the net (ie looking for him more on a cross for a header) but the popups in game say its more for players trying to get the ball to him and he will try to make plays. I thought that's what a playmaker was for?
The way i see it, the target man has specific skills like strength, long, good header etc. That makes him powerfull and to make use of that you have to play the ball to him and he can hold it and decide where to drop it. To the next attacker, the AMC or any player who's in a good position at the time. So yes, he does make plays but completely within his roll.
A playmaker does the same, but he needs to have space to use his creativity. So they both make play, but one only because he's strong so he can hold the ball in small places or heads it to the other attacker and the other because he's very creative, has good passing and dribbeling to decide a game using his through ball or great vision to play the ball to the right person.
