I think that Sigames have made a bit of a **** up on this game by making it too hard. In Football Manager 2006 I could develop a great tactic through trial and error and then go through a season with large amounts of success as my two favourite teams Liverpool or Real Madrid by winning La Liga Premiership Champs Cup etc.
However in this game I struggle to get a one nil victory over watford for God's sakes. This is not just challenging as some people may tell me it is downright pathetic. The only goals I am able to score in this game are a rebound that falls in front of an empty net.
I appreciate the fact that SI tried to reduce some stats in this game to make it more realistic but strikers who do very well in real life are simply poo in this game and miss every single chance where they may have to place it past the keeper ie Bellamy Kuyt Van Nistelrooy.
Does anybody have any tactics that they can suggest for any of my two favouite teams as I am in desperate need of help and am considering quitting this game and converting to Chamionship Manager 2007 which I have heard is much better.
BTW I have creted a few topics which the moderators have never failed to close within 10 minutes of me posting them. What do you have to do to warrant a post on this board?
I have a suggestion for the moderators on here who are constantly telling people to read the rules of this forum and that is READ THE TITLE OF THIS FORUM. I'll give you a clue bacause some of you obviously haven't seen it, its the TACTICS AND TRAINING TIPS forum.
I would understand if I was posting topics titled as 'Tactics Please' or 'Help' but I have posted topics relating to specific tactical situations and they have constantly been closed and can't believe that we live in a day and age where it is considered wrong to ask for tactical help on a tactics discussion forum unless the messgae is composed of an in depth tactical essay with 20 screenshots.
Please at least have the decency to leave this topic open until somebody has had the chance to provide me with some answers. Sorry if I seem abrupt but this game is really driving me mad and I need help.
Read this and use the information to design your own tactics depending on the team you are managing. Make 2 or 3 different tactics to reflect how the game is going and toggle between them. Use these tactics for at least a year and I am sure that you will have success- whether it is enouigh to save you burning the game is up to you.
The game is of course meant to be reasonably hard and will require some work on your behalf to have success. If you want a game that you take out of the box and take a Championship side to the CL final with default tactics, training, coaches etc, then this is not the game for you.
I have already read that post though and have tried to develop my own tactics based entirely on it. The football that those tactics seems to create appears entirely predictable to the ai and is more or less ineffective after a while.
One other thing that I am trying to accomplish is the 'perfect' defensive line. I don't know whether my defenders should push up, sit back, close down, play offside trap, have high freedom or what and conceeding goals late in the game is killing my chances of winning trophies as both Madrid and Liverpool.
As Liverpool I seem to be scraping one or two jammy goals per game and then having to hang on for dear life against crap teams. Later in the seaon during the period after I have reached the knockout stages of the Champs League my team struggle toscore one goal and Bellamy seems to have developed an allergy to putting the ball in the back of the net just like in real life.
Do you have any consistent tactics or bunches of tactics that I can swap between that you have won cups with either of these teams with?
i think mentality and creative freedom is your prblem!
ive got a tac for juve thats 8 mentality and 6 creative freedom and i won almost every game and went unbeaten all season and won the cup against a superior roma side that won the serie A and the champ league!
ok it was serie B but i hammered palermo 3-0 and 3-1 in the cup and lazio 5-1 on agg plus like i said beat roma in the final!
ive also just started with liverpool and jan 1st ive lost 1 game to newcastle away but beat chelski at the bridge and drew away to arse and the mancs all with a creative freedom of 2 for the whole team!!! so try lowering them!
Although I'm having some trouble winning myself at this moment, I think it's a bit of an overstatement to say that the game is deeply flawed or worth being burned. As far as I'm concerned, every new installment of the FM and CM series has been hard at first - that is, until you somehow learn to get a feel of the game and understand it (in some cases, this has taken me months ), and finally create a tactic that is more or less superior to the AI's tacticts. So I'd say: keep trying and stop complaining! :p

I'm trouncing everyone as Fulham and haven't made a signing worth mentioning, unless you count Reyna and Igor Tudor as uBer players
It's easy to come and gloat about it. A bit of proof and a some tactics would be nice though. hehe.
I agree dude. It's a tough game to conquer the tactics on this one. Maybe Sigames should be thinking of a game difficulty option for those new to the series. I bought two copies of this game (one for me and one for my old man) and at the moment I'm disappointed. My dad only ever played the old champ man series on his compie. I upgraded his pc for him with more ram and better processor, and got him this so he could enjoy recent players and the like. He's constantly on the blower asking me questions about what he's supposed to do! haha.
Myself, I have every single copy of this game ever created, and I must admit it's a bit tricky and takes a lot of time to master. Good job I have no job at the moment to have this time spending on it. Can't imagine what it's like for those of you who only play an hour a night.
My advice...
Go for a basic 4-4-2 tactic. Tweak it according to your players (but only tiny tweaks). ie... if you have a midfielder who is good at long shots, make sure he has plenty of 'em. If you've got a defender who's a top tackler and decision maker, you could consider putting him on harder tackling duty at the start of games, or even the same for a midfielder. And it's wise to have good tackling central midfielders and more flair and creativity on the wings I find. Win the ball in the middle of the park and give it to the wide men quick to create something.
It's a simple thing to do. But have something more defensive up your sleave (I advise you to stick to a more defensive 4-4-2 with counter attacking on) for when you are leading in a game you really shouldn't be.... Even Man Utd have off days when you are playing against a team who appear to be getting the better of you but you are still winning!
