Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default A solid tight defence!?

Ok well no matter what I have tried, while I can win and score plenty of goals, it was always at the expense of conceeding almost as many.

I have since managed to tighten up my defence a bit, but still conceed on average a goal per game.

So is there anyone out there who have some tactics that dont conceed many goals at all and please dont go giving me ones that only work when your playing with the best defenders in the world

I'm not a tactical expert but I'll try and help if I can. The information you have provided is a little vague. Would you might answering a few questions?

*What type of goal are you conceding most of?
*Do you play with a consistant DL or do you change it depending on the speed and ability of the opposition forwards?
*How did you tighten your defense up? What never you already tried?
*What style of defenders do you have? Fast and quick ones, Big and Tall ones of a combination?
*What is your formation? Do you give your back three/four/five enough support?
*Do you used tight marking away and switch it off at home?
*How wide is your formation?
*Do you might losing a bit of your attacking strength to tightening your defending?

Opposite problem here.

Of my 8 PL games with Newcastle I have conceded 1 penalty to Chelsea and one last minute winner to Boro.

I have one 2 games 1-0 (including Arsenal) and drawn the rest nil nil!

Defence is absolutel sound, possession is impressive but chances aren't particularly forthcoming.

Defensive tips based on this? Mentalities for the full-backs at the same as the midfield (10-11). Mentalities for the DC's at around 7, and the DMC at around 9. Closing down at 12 for everyone except the DC's on 5 or 6 and the wingers on 13 or 14.

DL at 10, width at 10 and everything else slap bang in the middle too.

Now, where did I put that goalscoring midfielder......
