Default Matt Taylor, past his prime?

I've just bought him for N.Forest for what I thought was a very cheap price at £550,000. I'm in the Prem and so are Pompey but they were very willing to sell him. He's only 28 and I was just wondering if they know something I don't know and he is past his best?
