Currently I use scouts, however even though I am an amatuer Danish team and my scouts have stats of over 13 for both JPA and JPP, they still fail to spot the awesome players that are released every year by the top clubs....for instance, I get them to scout Denmark and they find about 30 players after looking for 3 weeks, I will then restart this search after a while and especially around the middle and end of season, yet they always find the same players....
so because I was concerned that I was missing some real quality players, which was proved to be correct, I had a look under world\transfers and filtered through to bring up all players released, I specifically went through the players released at higher clubs than me, and requested that they be scouted.
Is that acceptable to most?
I also scour through the reserves of all the teams in the league above me for young kids I can loan in, and at the end of the season, any players that are still out of contract.
Is that acceptable?
I am also now more intent on using the scouting system and my own ability to identify potential signings by viewing other teams squad lists, purely because the player search screen brings up a vast amount of players and when managing at higher clubs I have found it far too tempting to snap up players for the hell of it because their stats look good, and even when your scout says they would be a good / quality signing, once they are your player they turn out to be no better than your current crop of talent.
I do feel the scouting system is the way forward, but needs to be improved. Definitely the stats for the scouts require intensifying so you can get to see more about their ability and knowledge of the game. As per my previous point....I have a scout who has extensive knowledge of Denmark and a JPA stat of 19, yet never highlights what I would call the real worthwhile purchases....which resulted in me personally identifying about 3 or 4 players that had recently been released, one of which went on to score 27 goals in 23 games for me in the following season. Why did my scout never pick him up? Even after performing the search more than once...
I'd also like to add that I much prefer the LLM to managing any top team!
I'm sure you know more about your club than I, but, could the reason the scouts never find any worthwhile purchases be because no worthwhile players want to play for you?

Personally, I don't think it's realistic for a manager of an amateur team to trawl through lists of professional players released.
The players who would be interested would only really be in an area nearer the club - not Johnny Foreigner all the way from Glasgow.
I do agree which is why I only looked at players from the same nation as me....
I'm just finding it hard going identifying and signing the real quality players using the current scouting system as it stands.

Nope, because the players I identified using the world\transfer menu all signed for me quite easily....
I'm always extremely suspicious of the use of any method to make the game easier.
't'aint LLM.
If a manager of a team doesn't attract decent players because of reputation or whatever then he doesn't have an "easy" button to get them...he just struggles on.
