Ter is it even possible, with the XML code changes in fm05, to make a CM like skin with no breadcrumbs, and none of the FM bonuses.

A simple left-sided bar with all the buttons on that side? Of course it would have the title bar at the top (with player names, etc.) and the scrolling text at the bottom...

Yes and No.

It would be pretty easy to make a skin with the CM layout. You could move the menubar etc and all that and make it look like days gone by.

But...

You would still need the the tree menu. Essentially its a pain in the backside because no matter where you move other things it needs to be where it is now (left or right), you can't move it.

Because of this moving the menubar to its CM side of the screen position would mean a big ish reduction in the 'screen content area' ie the bit with the pitch/player lists/main information etc. You would have the tree menu and the menubar taking up the space.

So in conclusion. You could make a CM replica skin bar the tree menu but it would mean you would loose too much screen space.

That really does suck.. why couldn't SI have made it optional per-skin? I really dislike the skin and I can't stand the tree menu..

The tree menu has top stay so you would lose too much screen space.

I really like the tree actually other than the fact you can only put it in one of two places (left side or right side) so it makes skinning less creative.

SI had to change the skin because Eidos kept the 'look' of the game after the parting of ways. As I say though i think the tree does a fine job, much better than the old buttons.

It's not about what people like, or stepping away from Eidos.

SI knew it was a new type of skin, and they should allowed people to play without it, and a more 'button' setup..

SI obviously saw the parting with Eidos as a new beginning, hence the new look.

I personally feel the look of FM is much better than CM and the tree is great, more options at your fingertips instead of having to wade through screens to get to the one you want.

If SI let you "play without it" you wouldnt be able to do anything as you wouldnt be able to access any screens

Yes, smith because people are so stupid and arrogant that they don't want the tree, so they'll stay on one screen and not actually play the game.. ¬_¬

I don't mind the tree, I just wish there was a damned option to have a button kind of appearence, or make it feasible in skins (with XML code).

I understand SI wanting a new beginning, but if that is "so true" why not re-make the engine, etc? Yeh yeh, time and cost, but the new look really doesn't suit me, at all. The breadcrumbs are useless, as they are on websites, and the options on the left still **** me off as I want buttons, at least I know when I've clicked it.
