Forgive my ignorance here but I would like to manage Hitchin Town by way of some sort of fiddle or other to bump them up into the Conference South.
Can anyone suggest the easiest way to do this? Can it be done within a save game or does a new game need to be started? The official editor is unusable on my modest spec machine, so is there another way?
I have searched the forum for something but all I've found so far assumes a degree of knowhow beyond me.
As an aside, I've attempted to do this in a roundabout way in a current game by adding a manager, taking over a club with a load of cash (Chelsea, of course) and buying what players Hitchin have for ridiculous fees - the idea being that the infux of cash will filter through and they will get promoted to the Conf South anyway. I have no idea whether this will work or not as I have no idea how the game decides which teams to promote from the sub-conference leagues - random? Since I did it they do seem to have a acquired a few more players of reasonable ability, so it might work.....
Go to the editor, find the team in Conf South (on the Competition tab) you want to swap them with... and swap them.
(it will give you a list of clubs in that division and a tab that says swap at the bottom, click that and find your club)
Easy Peasy.
Can't you read Falkirk, he says "the editor is unusable on my modest spec machine", Sten you can use and EDT file containing a swap team command, for more information look around

Many thanks in advance!
Put this in your EDT file under ur FM2005\data\db\
"SWAP_TEAMS" "Hitchin Town" "team u want to swap in Conference South"
Make sure the name of the team is what it seemed in the database.. for example, if u want swap man utd, u must put the name as Man Utd (with the capital letters, as it seem in the database) not Manchester United.. if not it will not work...
Thank you all, I will give it a bash. And perhaps put Chelsea in the Conference at the same time.
I think with FM2006 there should maybe be an option to run the editor in a 'basic' mode, enabling those of us with average machines to make basic adjustments like this without farting about with EDT files and the like. Swap teams, boost a team's finances etc, make it easy to add future regens etc etc.
I wonder though whether their reputation would stay at the same level, after all even if they get promoted every season their star players will surely want to move back to the upper echelons rather quicker.
There's something very appealing about completely distorting things and making the game completely *un*realistic.
