How would you go about getting players transfer listed at the start of the game or at least make it easier to buy them. Like for example Owen and Ellington appear to be for sale

Yes. Setting players against other players and staff members of the club helps immensely. It also enables clubs to buy them on the cheap as they're willing to offload them asap.

I would set him against the manager, the team captain, the ass man and the chairman. Soon enough, the rest will follow!

I've used this sucessfully in the past before. It won't cause the game to automatically transfer the player but they will want to.

Also, future transfer is an option.
