I`m playing with Coventry (FM 2006) and we are in season 09-10.
Last season we won the title and we also won the champions cup.
This season we struggle to win games allthough we are favourites to win most games we often struggle to get a draw.
I`ve read about "second season slump" on this forum and I´ve increased closing down on my back four (i`m using CM-Addict) but the problems are still there, the opposition is often dominating in midfield and my team can`t get to the ball.
Last season, my team was dominating the games and we were passing the ball around very nice and my strikers would ussually score one if they had a few chanses, ´now they can´t score in an open net.
Can someone please tell me what I need to do, Increase closing down? Slower tempo? Higher/lower mentality? Higher/lower defencive line?
Please help
Tactical Theorems and Frameworks, Page 7, post on 6 tactics. Pretty experimental but it should help. It offers an approach against defensive tactics at the very least.
OK,
Thank you for your reply. I`m not sure I found the posts that you suggested but I read trough quite a few pages and.... Now I´m still very confused on what to do about this problem.
Slower tempo: CM-addict has got normal/slow tempo as default, should I make it lower?
Width: CM-addict has got normal width, should I go more wide?
Closing down: CM-addict has got High CD on AMC and DMC, quite high CD for strikers and wingers, about normal for the back four.
Should I change any of this?
Defensive line: CM-addict has got DL on normal originally but I pushed it up to the higher end of normal last season.
Is a high or low DL best when you are the better team but struggle to keep the ball in possesion?
Counter attack: CM-addict has got it on...
On or off?
After looking at some games in "full detail" I now know where my main problem/s is:
The other teams dominate totally in midfield, passing the ball around like worldclass players, my midfield is trying to close down chasing the ball but never seams to get it.
When I try to push up my defensive line it gets a little better but my team then struggle to keep hold of the ball and when we do get the odd scoring opportunity my strikers (who scored for fun last season) allways plays it straight at their keeper.
In the end of the game (often overtime) My defence or goalie often makes a silly mistake and the opposition scores.
Please help me, I know that a lot of you tactial genius have got the solution.
When I used to play FM 2006(now I play FM 2007) I oftwn used 4-4-2(Counter) with my team CSKA (Sofia) because I had the same problem and it worked for me .Try it.
Well it would seem these teams are playing a possession based game against you, to tire your guys out leading to those injury time mistakes.
I would suggest switching to a wider, attacking game against any team playing defensively, in addition perhaps close down the ball less that way your team will just stand off their midfielders when they have the ball so they actually have to play it rather than play keep ball against you.
Though if you have good enough players you can play a slow tempo short passing game with attacking mentaility, this way you are playing a short but slow game meaning your players take a little longer but make better chances
I´ve got a very good team, about the same quality as Chelsea. They all have got good/great stamina and workrate so one would think that they should be able to close the opposition players down.
So, you are suggesting that I should "back off" in midfield?
What about the def.line... High or low? Closing down or not?
CM-addict is a counter attacking tactic, about normal tempo and width, would you advice me to untick counter attack, go wider, slower and a bit more attacking?
Thank you for your answers but i`m still very confused, should I change tactics totally?
