Two strikers and two wingers in a simple 442, how can i make it work?
I am currently playing with Man Utd and i am playing with this formation:
My results so far:
EPL: 14th 2w 3d 2l
CL: 1st 1w 1d
I have tried to make tactics but i just doens't seem to work.
This is what i would like:
I want a defence of 4 man with a DL and DR who sometimes make forward runs.
The two central defenders have to be really defensive and stay on their position.
The midfield also has to have 4 man:
I want do two man one the outside to be wingers and have a lot of attacking menatlity and also a lot of creative freedom so that they can make actions down the side line (just like Cristiano Ronaldo usually does) real explosive and pacey.
The two man in the middle havo to be really solid and if the team is in attack (with the ball) they also have to be in attack, and when the team is in defence (without the ball) they also have to be defensive and try to win the ball back. But the most important thing is that i don't want them to come to much from their position so that there become a lot of free space for the other team to strike back with a quick counter.
I want one target man who holds the ball up and gives assists to other players but also makes some goals on his own. The second striker has to be a quick and pacey striker most of all a clinical finisher who can score a lot of goals and who is strong.
But somehow it just doesn't seem to work. Most of all my strikers Klose and Rooney can't seem to work together.
I my formation i want to lay the accent on the two wingers and the two strikers, but like i said it just isn't working.
Football Style:
I prefer to play quick and direct football. But if someone thinks i should play short and slow with this formation just say so.
What am i doing wrong and how can i make this work?

Try setting one of the MCs to an attacking midfielder and using him as the playmaker (like Zidane at Real Madrid when they used the 4-4-2). Don't bother with a target man. Play very attacking, quick, short passing football, with a fair amount of creative freedom, a lot of width, the defence pushing up, no time wasting, play the off-side trap and counter attack.
Or just set all the players to their natural presets, with one MC set to "Attacking Midfielder". Don't bother with the Target Man IMO, but that's you're choice. I personally have never found a successful target man (apart from Ronaldo)

i play crouch or brendtnar as a target man, focus passing down wings...i play direct passing(not long ball just direct) width as wide as possible and tempo as fast as possible
i notice in the match engine...the ball gets played to crouch from the back...he wins almost everything(as does brendtnar)(use someone tall with good jumping heading and strength)...my pacey wingers are extremely noticable
SWP was named worst signing of the season in his first season on anfield...but following tweeks to the tactics hes now wanted by all the top clubs in the world and he is crucial to my team
oh btw im 3 years in...first season finished 14th with a different tactic, lucky to keep my job....next season we scraped in the champions league, next season we finished 4th last day but if we won woulda finished 2nd....we won the champions league tho....started using the new tactic after christmas after a run of poor results
im into january in season 4 now....top by a street, win every game 3-0 4-0 etc...even won 3-0 at stamford bridge
my assistant says i have a decent squad but nothing to get really excited about...although they seem unbeatable....kuyt has scored 17 goals in 12 games and he doesnt make the strongest 11, LOL
brendtnar is a young danish striker at arsenal....cost me £20mil...i wish i had known i coulda got him for pennys a season earlier...he is quality...and crouch is simply fantastic for me
1 down side is gerrard isnt as good as he should be...best Ave. rating he got for me in first 3 years was 7.22
hes doin 7.40 this season but the rest of the team are by far overshadowing him
even gourcuff his understudy gets close to 8 average and scores for fun from midfield
gerrard has got no more than 5 goals a season so far

FM2007 is soooooooooo frustrating. I cant do it. Ive tried eveything and am not playing anymore until they sort it out - I draw every bloody game even though my team is sh!t loads better than the opponents.
What kind of messed up sh!t is it when a stupid prematch comment has more effect than a formation!
