Switched to this tactics yesterday evening – results are amazing. Good work!
Some background on my team.
I am in my 4th season with Peterborough playing in English Championship. After 2 consecutive promotions and failing to promote to Premiership in 3rd season (lost in playoff final) we met the ‘4th season slump’. I used TT&F II LQ tactic in seasons 1 & 2, and ‘upgraded’ to TT&F II MQ tactic in season 3, and everything worked just fine till season 4. I am continuously upgrading my squad with both young and talented players and experienced guys. In addition to basic skills necessary to each particular position (which are above 15 in most cases), I am paying much attention to mental skills like Agression, Bravery, Teamwork, Workrate, Determination, Anticipation, and Physical skills like Pace, Agility – these skills should be at least 15 ( or 10-14 in rare exceptions).
In first half of Season 4 we hit a slump. We went to this season as one of 3 promotions contenders. Almost every second game a player was sent off, defenders and mids were earning mostly 5’s and 6’s. We were falling down the league table. I tried TT&F II HQ tactic with no improvement. When in an away game against some outsider we went to half-time trailing 0-1 beeing outpossessed and outshot, in desperation I switched to 4-4-2 A and….we scored 3 consecutive goals. I switched to 4-4-2 DL, and we scored 2 more, finishing the game with 5:1 Then I completely switched to Synax 4-4-2 tactic as default tactic for our team.
Now I have played 10 games with this tactic with 8 wins and 2 losses. Our league position ha recovered from 8th place to 3rd place. We lost League Cup game against Chelsea at home 1:2. To save morale in case of heavy demolition I fielded B team for this game with only 2 or 3 guys from my A team using 4-4-2 A in the beginng and 4-4-2 DL later on. We picked 3 injuries in first half, but in the end we still got more posession (51%

) and outshot Chelsea (shots 10-7, shots on goal 7-2). The second loss was 1:3 against some mid-table side away when our keeper made a bad mistake and our best defender scored an own goal. Probably I made bad choice of tactic variation.
Couple of things I have noticed:
- team’s amazing behavour when using 4-4-2 DL tactic – passing and player movement are surprisingly fluent and rational. Actually it is fun to watch when opposition swithes to 4-2-4 and we start to dominate the game possession-wise and shot-wise, and finally we score 2-3 more goals

- I am intentionally leaving d-line ‘as it is’ – I believe default setting is around 15, but opposition still have not managed to score on counter attacks even if their striker’s pace is 17-18 in comparision of my defender’s 14-15.
- players ratings have skyrocketed. We are earning more 10’s than 6’s
In meantime I have couple of questions:
- Do you have any considerations about settings that even in case of player excellent skill (>17) should not be put on ‘often’, for example, throughballs for AML/R and DL/DR, or others?
- Have you tested different ‘closing down’ setting for keeper?
Cheers! </BLOCKQUOTE>
Nice glad to see its worked well, D-Line is 14 because anything higher causes the defense to get to close to the DM and this can stop the DM from doing his job, but if you see better results keep it up.
Run with ball could be set to often with decent players, things like forward runs can be turned on more often if your players are pacy with good position, I have not really tested closing down with the keeper but if you change it and you see an improvement please let us know il test it and include it in the version 3 when im not busy.
With the through balls, they can be set to mixed but i try not to set them to this, if you have an attacking winger and your threw balls are set high with him i believe he will try to run towards the middle of the pitch and pass into somebody then sticking on the lines and crossing the ball in, again if you see any improvement from it please let me know and il get to work testing it, glad you like it and thanks for the feedback, Synax.
