Anyone got any suggestions for running down the last few minutes of games. I nearly always concede goals in the last 10 mins and its costing me far too many points!!!! I was 2-0 up against S****horpe (as Crewe) in the 88th after dominating the game and from nowhere they score 2 in the same minute! This is far from realistic. I've tried slowing down play, wasting time and playing defensively and at the other extreme tried to maintain an attacking threat right the way through to the end. Please someone help, it's driving me insane!
Well this normally works for me, not every time though. Sometimes you just have to face it they will score. I go to the first notch on the following, mentality - defensive, creative freedom little, time wasting often.
this is pretty simple, it works for me almost every single time:
first notch passing
first notch tempo
first notch width
first notch creative freedom
top time wasting
and very important:
stop all forward running.
do all this, save it as a time wasting tactic, and you'll be good.
Don't forget set pieces. I notice there is a tendency for unrealistic counter attacking by the AI from Player set pieces. So in addition to the above suggested, I also:
Pull back all defenders from Attacking Free Kicks
Pull back all defenders from Attacking Corners, set wingers to Short Option
I will basically use a sort of gradual increase of a "kill the clock" mode as a game goes on. If I'm up a goal with about 60 minutes to play I'll bring my mentality to around -3 and my time wasting to maybe +3. At around 70 I might make this more extreme and start playing a bit more direct style. At 83-86 minutes or so, I go into -10 mentality ("ultra defensive"), +10 passing style ("long") and +10 time wasting. There is a risk of getting someone "caught on the ball" and you aren't exactly keeping possession -- you're playing a bit like a hockey team does trying to kill a power play -- but I generally find that this works best. I will also tick counter-attacking on if it isn't on already once I start playing the more defensive style, because a quick counter usually still leaves you plenty of guys back but gives you a chance to score or get the ball into space and kill some time.
Well this was my first post on this forum and I'm very impressed with the level of feedback. Hopefully this advice will help me turn around a disastorous start to the season! Cheers.
I never adjust my mentality as it seems to confuse my players.
What I do is, tempo as slow as possible an time-wasting as often as possible.
It does the trick for me
