It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Conceding too many goals by deep crosses

OK guys, I've been building my own tactic based on wwfan's T&TF'07, basically tweaking a 4-4-2 system with the RoT Rules.

I still concede lots of goals, mainly with deep crosses from wingers coming right on the head of their targetman or (worse) on the head of the opposite winger. Computer players ALWAYS win the aerial battles against my players.

Needless to say, I'm very upset, and I'm trying to tweak my tactic so that it doesn't happen again.

First of all I've been trying to prevent crosses from the wingers : I've set my wingback instructions to "individual tight marking", and I've instructed my team to play wide, so that I can mark the wingers.

Too bad, my wingbacks don't seem to know which player they should man-mark, and sometimes they're focusing on the targetman (!), letting the flank empty and opened to computer assaults.

Then I told me I should have some good heading defenders to win the ball in the air. As a test I decided to edit the abilities of my defenders - I put them with 19 pace, 19 acceleration, 19 marking, 19 positioning, 19 jumping, 19 heading. Useless. On 10 fixtures, I conceded 12, 9 being by headers on crosses.

And last, I wanted to build a defensive system where my own wingers would help the fullbacks in their defensives tasks - IE the way it should be, and the way it's not in the RoT theory. Useless again. Easy moves from the opponent seem to cause havoc in my defense, and their wingers can still cross easily to their strikers.

What in the hell could I do to prevent those goals ? (instead of buying top class fullbacks, wingers, and central defenders - haven't got that money yet)

(and sorry for the mistakes I could've made in this message - we french are not that good when it comes to foreign languages)

I have the same problem mate . Deep crosses drive me crazy . I don't know, how to stop this. My Fbs close down the oppostion wingers or my Mids close down the opposition fullbacks, then they suddenly turn and send a deep cross to lone striker. If anyone knows how to prevent this please post.

Seems to be a running theme with this version of FM.

Same for me. actually its the only way the oposition scores against me. Either that or form corners to the head. There is no way to defend this.

Three ways I see it how you could avoid balls like that.

1) Fullbacks that close down harder and quicker - So Zonal, Hard tackling and high closing down.

2) Higher Defensive line and catch them offside - Push up defensive line and tick offside trap, risky unless you have an organised/pacey defense.

3) Defend Deeper - This requires quite tall, good at jump CDs or FBs. You can set a deeper defensive line, tight marking and hard tackling this way the crosses will come in but your defenders will challenge for the ball better making it harder for the opposing team to get headers in.
